This has nothing to do with length of contract! It is just so that we aren't using entry level prices on players anymore, like if there someone you want off of free agency or a prospect that you have had for 5 years you go by their real contract not by what they would have gotten out of the draft.Example: Joe Blow drafted 7th in 2003 and his current NHL contract is $1.0m. I don't go by his entry draft price anymore but go by half his current contract so I bid $0.5m
