The Phillies make this trade to get something out of the expiring contract of Kendrick, who the team had no plans of extending.  Kendrick is a slightly below average pitcher over his career, well below average in 2013.  The Phillies pick up an outfield prospect that the GM personally loves in Aplin, we in the organization feel he becomes an everyday top of the order major league center fielder based on his outstanding defense and remarkable on base skills.  A great guy to have in a 5 outfielder league.

Royals approve, Kendrick is obviously not the greatest pitcher, but will start barring an injury and has had several stretches in his career of very good pitching (and some stretches of terrible pitching). I just hope he is in a good stretch when the playoffs come around, he could be the difference. Still, should be good for around 300 points on the season.  Aplin has an upside that may come back to bite me, but I don't think his on base skills will translate to the majors.
