Trade - Red Sox/Blue Jays
« on: December 26, 2013, 08:02:51 PM »
Now that the rosters are back up, I'm re-posting this with contract info:

Blue Jays receive:
  • SS - Andrelton Simmons ($480K, control thru 2017)
  • C - Ryan Lavarnway ($480K, control thru 2017)(

Red Sox receive:
  • 1B - Adam Lind ($8.848M, control thru 2016)

Red Sox to confirm.

Blue Jays make this trade to acquire one of my favorite players and shore up the SS position.  Chris Owings is my only SS and he's not guaranteed a starting spot.  1B and CI are an organizational strength with Pujols, Machado, and Lawrie still on board to man those positions until Kris Bryant arrives.  Lavarnway adds depth at catcher, which outside of our two starters is pretty barren.

It sucks that our scoring system allows this trade to make sense. That being said I approve on basis of irrational defensive positional value.

I don't see the equal value here. I offered a lot more talent and specs for Simmons to the previous manager of the Sox, and it was "vetoed". Lind for Simmons straight up is a joke by itself, let alone adding a 2nd player for Lind.

Personally don't like the trade, but not enough to veto.  :iatp:

Yes, good point.  The clock on the trade should not start until Boston confirms the deal.. At that point, since there is already a veto, there'll be 72 hours for additional voting.

In order to veto you must provide an actual baseball reason for that veto.  Including actual relevant facts is advised.  Vetoing because your trade got vetoed isn't going to work I'm afraid.  This process shouldn't be an exercise in bitter revenge voting.  If Lind for Simmons is "a joke by itself" then explain why, in detail.

I am not a fan of this trade either and can understand Fitzy's frustation with this deal.  I am not voting either way but this is what I seen from the scoring from last year so you all can figure that in with the salary.

Ryan Lavarnway had 81.8 last year-cheap salary
Andrelton Simmons 562.8-cheap salary

Adam Lind 504 having a bounce back year after several ok years.-$8M

Plus over 48 hrs for boston to confirm does not look good.
