You should only be allowed to extend a player when he is in the final year of his contract.
Contract $ value cant be less, not yearswhich means if you take a big contract your stuck because to sign him again itd be another 5 year contract. if you sign a young gun for a big contract it could hurt you. and contracts should always be allowed to be increased.
Oh ok, so you can renegotiate in the players credit but not in the teams. That makes sense (definately wouldnt fly in the real NHL but ok for our purposes )
For simplicity sake I will not allow the extension to take place after the season. If we keep the rule it'll be that it can only occur in the last year of the contract and take over immediately. This will avoid dumping bad contracts through extensions. I have made my decision, executive order.
Ok this isn't how actual extensions work but I guess I can live with it, so 2 parts to clarify:1. Can only extend in last year of contract2. Extension takes over immediately
