The Yankees make this deal to acquire one of the best talents in the game. It doesn't exactly fit what I'd been attempting to build, but when an opportunity to acquire a player like Bryce Harper comes along you don't pass it up. I have plenty of cap space for the expensive resign that is coming and feel that the odds of any of the prospects going to San Francisco becoming impact players are pretty low.

The best position player in our league is worth a lot more than back up players and b/c level prospects.  The odds of any of these players becoming impact players is pretty low by the Yankees own admission.

I agree to trade. Willing to chance on these guys. The main player of this trade is is bird and kubitza. Bird will be a 20 to 30 + hr hitter for the yankees. I see kubitza beibg a eveyday player at 3rd with some pop in his bat. Mason wiliams i like alot do to his speed. With this being harpers last arb year and haveing to have to resign him. I felt the best thing to do is trade him. Hi 20+ million dollor contract extension is way to exspensive for me to take on.

While I think the Giants could have commanded a larger return, he is getting multiple helpful pieces for a player he wouldn't have been able to resign.  I might think about a veto if a contending team was acquiring Harper, but this doesn't shift the balance of power and both owners are happy with their side of the deal.

I believe this is a bad trade for SF and bad enough to .  It really will come down to how SF would spend the roughly $15.5M they will save by not extending Harper. No player that can get close to Harper's value can be signed for that.

 I don't buy the reason this is a cap move.  Teixeria comes off the books in the same offseason and that more than enough provides the money available to extend Harper.
 
 Of the prospects involved only Bird is a top tier guy.  If the deal was Bird, Stephenson, and Girchuk plus another prospect it would be fair value. 

Also Bryce Harper is younger than all the prospects in the trade.
