Canucks need to make some further re-building moves. Obviously, giving up a starting goalie is tough, but I like Grub and Parsons in the future. The other pieces help to balance that out as well.

I am a realist; I believe strongly in competing for today and never taking a back seat for the future and giving up. Vancouver (1-6)  has decided to take the back seat dumping 3-players to Washington (4-3) thinking of only next season. Who is to say tomorrow will even arrive? Washington would reap the harvest with this trade and I do not blame them for accepting.

I accept, pushing up my rebuild since my team is playing really well. I need that extra starting goalie and even though he's 32 I'm taking the risk here. Still have a couple good years on Doughty and Bjugstad fills a depth role for me which I'm losing in this trade. I have the cap space for this to be worth it and still some good pieces in the minors.

Rob has been here long enough and is a respected veteran to run his team how he wants.

For what it's worth, he also gains more FP in this trade 84.07 - 75.95 and turns players ages 32, 29 and 26 into NHL players aged 22, 22, 23, 27, 29 and two specs 21 and 22. Four of those players were drafted in the first round of 2013 or 2014.

Lots of moving parts so hard to evaluate without looking into everyone in detail, but on the surface I see no issue. I'm with Cliff in trying to win now if you think your team is strong enough and adding to it so nice get for Caps, but same I do think the pieces going back will help Canucks in the future and their is certainly enough value. Sometimes you do need to rebuild and look toward the future so

I have dealt with both GM's and find them to be not only knowledgeable, but also to drive a particularly hard bargain. Rip it up boys.

There are many signs pointing to Varlamov sticking around Colorado and Grub is always pushing for that starter spot. I also think it's important for a team in a dynasty league to make moves with the future in mind when it makes sense. None of us knows what the future holds, if I did, I would have won a championship in this league by now but alas, I'm still not even convinced that this year is my year
