However, given the player production and value to the Carolina franchise as assets, their extensions are being automated.

I don't think Carolina should let Justin Peters walk. A relatively young back-up or possible 1B behind Holtby is fairly valuable.

As much as I would like Peters to hit the Free Agent market I believe it is in Carolina's interest to re-sign Peters to an Extension at $5.0 Million. Even Alex Steen who will score similar point totals is looking at an Extension worth $6.4 Million if I'm not mistaken.

That's my two cents.

Justin Peters is due a 4.7m extension... he scored just under 120pts last yr (118.75 in 21 GP). With the scarcity of Goalies it might be a good call. Of course the team also has other big extensions pending for Steen 6.4. and Wheeler at 7.1m
