for any team that owns a starting goalie (especially one from a perennial contender ), the issue of a goalie shortage in a 30 team league using 2 goalies wouldnt be as relevant.
think about league play and keeping managers interested on teams missing a starting goalie... as it stands, at least 4 teams will not own a starting G next wk leading those teams to suffer plenty of loses all season. not fun. i would like this to work and enjoy salary cap leagues and discovering new ways to compete and win... but this league will experience higher than expected turnover if this gap in play isnt addressed. consider this Fantasy Nightmares, Howard goes down Oct.7th... no one wants to trade you a goalie, even if they have 3-5, there is no one that can produce more than 50pts in a season left in the FA pool... then what, you start tuning out after mutliple failed attempts to acquire a starter. 6436

SITUTATION
9-teams currently dont have a starting goalie. i count 5 Free Agent starting goalies up for bids... bryzgalov, crawford, anderson, vokoun, roloson... schneider isnt a starter when the season starts. So what happens to the 4 teams that dont own a starter once the season starts... they will be short approx 350pts annually almost guaranteeing them a loss weekly. PROBLEM if managers cant acquire a goalie, and they are forced to lose those +350pts annually you'll potentially face a high turn over rate for managers fed up with the disparity since it takes anywhere from 1-5 yrs to wait for a goalie to mature and become an NHL starter + there are only 30 starting jobs in the NHL so a good prospect might never get a real shot to start in the foreseeable future. FANTASY, NOT LIKE REALITY i realize the league wants to mimic the NHL as much as possible but unlike the NHL, teams can decide to play a rookie goalie and start scoring points. OPTIONS have hockeyfreak6000 and Gilly already discussed this issue because it will lead to very uneven play. has the league considered ...

that was my understanding as well, shooter47
this winnipeg (former atlanta) goalie was NHL drafted in 2010 so he should be eligible as a FA pickup. 6439

my understanding is a prospect that has been NHL drafted but sits in this league's free agent pool can be signed just like a regular FA player such as Ilya Bryzgalov... though not likely for the $15M Bryzgalov's gonna get.
