I am going to throw out an off the wall idea for extensions. In another league I am in, they have what they call a home town discount. It is used in coordination with free agency to reward the current team that owns the player. I was thinking that if the discount were used instead of extensions it could yield some benefits:
1) It is easy 2) Provides a benefit to the current owning team by providing a discount (especially to teams who have cultivated the talent in their farm system). 3) Provides market value. 4) It still provides everyone a shot at the player. Just thought I'd throw it out there. I'm not opposed to a more standard method of extensions either. In regards to Free agent compensation, I think the MLB system could be fairly simple for our league: Three tiers of free agents: A, B, & C
I would recommend that it be based on the point values earned by the player according to the league scoring system. These values are auto calculated by fantrax. 3768
