I'm wondering if there's a reason there's a smaller list of MOST OVERPAID PLAYERS in FNHL.
But here's my attempt at bringing it back for the 2019-20 season. Being the owner of the most OVERPAID player, I think that honour belongs to me.
I've cut and paste this from the 2015-16 post started by Pigsrule and will use it as a evolving post. After the Sharks players, the list is in no particular order.
2011-12 List of overpaid FNHL players 2012-13 List 2013-14 List 2014-15 List 2015-16 List Who belongs on the 2019-20 List?
- RW - Josh Anderson, $10.3m (2019-2024) - product of a FA bidding war
- LW - Milan Lucic, $5.7m (2019-2023) - there are way cheaper options for the same output on the wing
- LW/RW - Thomas Vanek, $1.6m (2019-2022) - a slow footed FA who refuses to retire at age 36
- D - Damon Severson, $6.0m (2018-2022) - plays like a bottom pairing D
- G - Alex Lyon, $3.6m (2018-2021) - does this guy even have a real shot at the NHL?
- D - Ryan McDonagh, $5.3m (2017-2020) - plays like a 7th or 8th D
- G - Ryan Miller, $7.1m (2017-2021) - retirement material?
- D - Derek Forbort, $3.5m (2018-2021) - not producing even when he's not on on the IR
- LW - Patrick Marleau, $4.7m (2018-2021) - 40yo has seen better days
- G - Timur Bilyalov, $5.1m (2019-2022) - until he reaches the NHL, this KHLer is an expensive prospect
- G - Henrik Lundqvist, $13.5m (2017-2022) - on a bad team and past his prime too
- C/LW - Joe Pavelski, $8.3m (2018-2023) - has not been elite this year with the Stars
- D - Nick Holden, $5.2m (2018-2021) - maybe a little more expensive that he should be
- D - Oliwer Kaski, $3.7m (2019-2022) - the result of FA bidding war?
- G - Michael Hutchinson, $5.1m (2017-2020) - blew his chance to remain an NHLer with Leafs
- C - Martin Hanzal, $2.2m (2018-2021) - played total of 45 games in 3 yrs!!!!
- G - Cory Schneider, $5.8m (2019-2023) - lots of term left on this contract for an AHL goalie
- RW - Corey Perry, $6.6m (2017-2021) - well past expiry date for that contract
- D - Johnny Boychuk, $8.0m (2016-2021) - just an ordinary blueliner nowadays
- LW - Zack Smith, $5.5m (2017-2021) - reminds me of Lucic's contract and scoring output
- G - Calvin Pickard, $4.6m (2018-2021) - stuck in the AHL on a bad team like DET!?!?!
- G - Keith Kinkaid, $5.1m (2017-2021) - stuck in the AHL on a bad team like MTL!?!?!
- C - Ryan Spooner, $3.2m (2018-2021) - someone file a missing persons report on Spooner!
- RW - Cam Atkinson, $7.5m (2018-2023-FP-9.9 ) - he's good but this was a FA bidding war contract
- LW - Matt Martin, $5.1m (2018-2021) - just like Lucic and Zack Smith
- LW - Patrick Maroon, $6.0m (2018-2022) - just like Lucic, Zack Smith and Martin
- RW - Marko Dano, $4.4m (2018-2021) - got paid and left town
- RW - Phil Kessel, $4.5m (2019-2022) - how the mighty have fallen!
- G - Cam Talbot, $8.9m (2019-2024) - too expensive for a backup
- RW - Tyler Pitlick, $2.7m (2019-2022) - overpaid for a depth guy
Brilliant! Great work! That Boychuk contract is going to change next season for the better. Count on it.

This idea has LEGS baby!
I like that idea to play out the remainder of the 2019-20 playoffs.
Running with that idea to building on that thought, we could create a parallel league with the 8 remaining playoff teams at the start of 2020-21 and play out * Round 2 Thurs-Sun -- 4 days * Conference Finals -- 1 week * FNHL FINALS -- 2 weeks
We would have to ensure: * the remaining 8 teams have a say and * 8 teams would need to agree to any setup that is not the expected regular course of the FNHL playoffs we normally undertake * 8 teams would need to agree unanimously that the prize pool is in-play or agree the remainder of FNHL playoffs are for fun only with no official result recorded.
Parallel league to play out the remainder of the playoffs would be free to setup on Fantrax because it's less than 12 or 16 teams -- but to be double checked by myself & PR.
I believe commissioner controls would allow me and PR to set matchups for each remaining Playoff Round.
I agree. This plan has strong potential. We might be able to get the Premium fighting stat free if Fantrax still allows a free month trial. We could potentially manually enter the results into the 2019-20 version of FNHL on Fantrax for record keeping. My hope is the NHL can play out the regular season starting in mid June if you look at how some countries showing recovery from COVID-19 needed 3 months to get things under control. The NHL and players want to recoup all the lost revenue they can when play resumes.

I don’t see the NHL resuming in 2 weeks. I think the earliest is mid-May to give this COVID-19 virus a good 2 mths settle and get under control... that would also be enough time to reconfig schedule and secure venue availability. It’s going to be a real scheduling headache for everyone in real life.

This is an open discussion thread to talk about the impact of the NHL season currently put on hold.
To get the discussion going, here are some possible outcomes given possible NHL decisions re 2019-20 NHL season:
1) NHL pauses regular season and resumes regular play per existing matches —- RECOMMENDATION: FNHL to resume FNHL playoffs with updated calendar dates.
2) If the NHL decides to cancel the remainder of the season... RECOMMENDATION: FNHL will keep FNHL regular season results, cancel FNHL playoffs & carry over 2019-20 prize pool to 2020-21 FNHL; FNHL draft contingent on NHL holding a draft with weighted lottery to determine draft position for the 8 remaining playoff teams.
3) If NHL decides to eliminate the remainder of its regular season and begin NHL playoffs when play resumes, FNHL playoffs will be cancelled and prize pool carried over to 2020-21 season.
The points above are for discussion and not firm decisions. Please feel free to post your thoughts.

I noticed PPG was setting his Flyers lineups in Rd1 ... guess he fantasizes he was actually in a postseason matchup. Just checked Flyers were the highest scoring team last wk. At least he knows he’s got a playoff contender to work with.

Given the expected spike in the 2020-21 NHL salary cap ceiling, the extension increase will take effect April 5th. New extension values to come in the following weeks.
Friendly reminder to all.
