This new rule is to prevent circumventing the cap hit attributed to a top prospect. In the past 2 seasons, we have seen teams dropping or Buying out a top prospect with a pricy ELC only to draft them in the Supplemental or Special Round 5 portion of the Entry Draft.
Rule Introduced January 5, 2021: Teams prohibited from Releasing or Buying out a MiLR player, player on ELC only to draft them in the Supplemental, Entry or Special Round 5 portion of the Entry Draft.
Example: Jack Hughes selected #1 overall should earn a $3.0M ELC but was bought out and drafted during the 2020 FNHL Supplemental Draft and will be signed to a league minimum of $0.7M - as of today, this practice will not be allowed as Hughes deserves his $3M ELC contract and this circumvents a sizeable cap hit the drafting team should accept.
Moving forward as of today January 5, 2021, this practice will not be allowed.
Good Rule change

The Rd 5 pick for Seattle - is that treated like an entry draft pick or like a supplemental pick as with the Division winners? I want to make sure I've got the right prospects lined up. LMK Thanks.
Yes

Seems the talks between NHL and NHLPA have been holding things up for the hockey world. I'm guessing the PA wants to get the NHL to give players an opt out of play while the NHL probably doesn't want to allow it.
The NBA has an interesting setup but they only have 1 Canadian team to contend with. The NHL will have a tough time getting things started in January if they don't come to an agreement with the PA by mid-December.
Agreed; let’s hope they reach agreement quickly for the fans.

I say they drop the puck to start the regular season on January 18, 2021. It should be January 11th but there will be positive COVID tests early on during training camp leading to slowdown/shutdowns for several days/wks in December.
That's my guess.
I follow that logic; good as guess as I would have. I am noticing this looks like an A B conversation so I’m going to C my way out. So sorry to interrupt

My story isn't directly about FNHL but about my BY experience. Still involves FNHL indirectly.
I think I was in BY for all of a week or 2 when I first joined Profsl. I didn't reply to a PM for 5-7 days and got kicked out by Drew for not being active enough for his precious BY. You could tell the guy had too much time and no family, definitely no kids or a house. All I could do was laugh. My guess is the guy actually created spawn now and understand he was premature with his decision. From what I hear he disappears for stretches now. Karma.
How does this indirectly involve FNHL?
Well, all I can say is after that regrettable encounter with Drew, I appreciate how professional and mature PR & PPG are in this league. People seem to get it here. Play hard but relax and don't let stuff wind you up.
Then seeing how Drew used commish privileges to retroactively adjust his lineup numerous times to win matchups just made a lot of us question those FNHL champions. It did for me. Maybe that huge Anton Forsberg BO cap hit is bad karma slapping the face of that Minnesota Wild franchise.
That’s some laundry

You know I'm just adding my version of Antman to this thread right. But I have to say Indians ripped my heart out when he traded away Sebastian Aho, Nikita Gusev AND Johnny Gaudreau from my heavily scouted former San Jose Sharks franchise. At least Rock On has worked on rebuilding the minors over there.
Feels like a separate unique perspective entirely. I’d just call it a Burkeeee I think we both value prospects so I could see how that might be viewed as wreckless management.

Com'on Ant! Don't give my Habs a hard time. We haven't played one another enough times to even develop a rivalry.
You’ll be ok w/o goalie compensation, you have a top team.
