I've run this league for a couple of years now so I know why a trade can and can't be vetoed and collusion has never been the standard, ever, because it's impossible to prove.  Of course you vetoed my trade with the Braves at the trade deadline with no collusion so you seem to want to have it whichever which way any time you like.

It's funny that you say that because, like the Jays owner alluded to, there have been so many trades over the years in which I've thought "damn, Chris is fleecing this guy." You know what I have done 95% of the time? Approve.
Why?
Because while I think you clearly won the trade I can appreciate the work put in it by both you and the other owner and trust that negotiations took place and the other owner that you are fleecing has the best interest of his team even if I don't agree that he is getting great value and you are "winning" the trade.

If you want to go back and see how many trades you have vetoed versus how many I have I would love to see that number!

As far as the I'm commish argument, well I have been in the league about the same time you have and was around before you were commish back when Yahoolando was running it so get that 'I know better than other owners because I'm commish and been around longer' BS out of here.

I have seen too many owners fight with you and quit the league over your vetoes and treatment of owners. Despite that I have tried to be civil and take every chance I can to commend you on a good job being commish (which besides the two issues I just described I whole heartedly believe).

Please Chris, again, I really appreciate all the effort you put in to making this league great but get off the high horse.

Honestly, if collusion is being thrown out as a reason to veto a trade, I have to think that the only reason a trade should get vetoed would be if it is bad for the future of the league or the owner doesn't know what they're doing and needs to be saved. I'd like to think that taking a roster of complete Crap , with no cap space and in 2 years getting to where I'm at should have earned me enough respect to say that 1 year of a solid catcher isn't as valuable as 19 potential lottery tickets. Sure, a lot of the players taken after the 12th round never become anything, but 2 of my picks in round 12 or later last year have moved into Org top 30s in less than a year. I have no intentions of saying that I'm in any way shape or form an amazing GM, but I do believe that I know what I'm doing and can get much more value in those 19 picks than Francisco Cervelli can bring to my team.

:iatp: would be easier to swallow if the salary wasn't included. I accept reasoning of both sides yanks could've done better but different priorities.

It's funny that you say that because, like the Jays owner alluded to, there have been so many trades over the years in which I've thought "BooYah! , Chris is fleecing this guy." You know what I have done 95% of the time? Approve.

I don't see me spending an incredible amount of time running the league a couple of years and you playing in the league a couple of years as some equivalence.  We've had several people step up huge over the years to help out with the league and keep it running.  Jeremy, Sean, and Chris in particular.  I know I spend a couple hours a week at minimum helping to run the league and Jeremy probably does likewise.  You're a good owner and I appreciate the competition but I don't know where you get the idea that as a result of all of the time I regularly put into maintaining this league that I don't get a prominent say in the direction of the league.

Ok, I do my own research and this is what I see. First off  Cervelli  was the 15th C in 2016 and the 5th C in 2015. So lets all agree he has a 2yr average o somewhere around the 10th best C in the league. Secondly this is a 30 team/ 2 catcher league which means the there are 60 starting Catchers in the league. That places Cervelli in the top 80 percentile of starting catchers. So I don't think I would give a top 10ish catcher up for a group of pick most of us are not going to use anyway. Hell he can have mine. What  I have a bigger problem with is that he is giving up somewhere around 6m in salary also. It a bad trade.

Even with all of this I can understand the people that say Approve but the 6m makes it just a little to much for me.

By the way Why is the  :veto: so small and the Approve  so big?

I'm new to this league and don't really know anyone in it so I can say this fully without any bias.

I'm currently in a veto situation myself with one of my deals for similar reasons that have been stated to veto this one. I'm not in the business of vetoing trades or telling people how to run their teams unless the deal is going to be league altering which I don't deem this one.

Do I agree that money would've helped, sure, but obviously he had no issue taking on the salary. As far as Cervelli, forget the rankings, he's an older catcher who may have started so show signs of decline last year. If he's got the room to move him and swap age for youth, who am I to argue with either of them

  • Jwalkerjr88: It was dallas. I think he missed the playoffs that year. Then used the draft picks on the 2021 class. Every pick was the 32nd pick (dont remembee what the other 1st became)
    May 28, 2024, 10:18:22 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: Idk if anyone remembers the 2021 class but it was weak on offense outside or the top 10-15. I dont regret the deal just learned and move on. As long as you have assets, you can mold your build how you want. Picks are usually the most valuable asset because most gms want in on a draft.
