2011 FGM Power Rankings
« on: March 20, 2011, 03:03:30 PM »
I am not sure how often I can update them this year.  Too many player changes to point out names, but a lot of the same teams in the mix with some surprises and expected gains...

Grades: [Score, Batting, Pitching]

Week 1 Power Rankings
1) :PHI: - (0-0) [93.34%/B+/A] - Only true Philly on offense is Howard but pitching matches the Phils' fearsome four for the best pitching in MLB (1)
2) :MIL: - (0-0) [91.66%/A/B] - Pujols, Utley, Braun - why do we question Milwaukee? (-1)
3) :LAD: - (0-0) [87.27%/B+/B] - Reigning champs didn't need to do much, how will Kuroda hold up? (3)
4) :CLE: - (0-0) [87.00%/B/B+] - Cleveland has really put it together to make a run at the division title with solid veteran talent (and young studs like Gallardo and Votto) across the board, I like this team (6)
5) :COL: - (0-0) [86.93%/A/C+] - Rockies soap opera - star power AB, little to no depth, but story of the year is their pitching… perhaps the most improved team in the offseason since they had nearly no pitching last year (16)
6) :OAK: - (0-0) [86.30%/B/B+] - A's have young core back for another AL West run, but are susceptible to depth issues (-1)
7) :NYY: - (0-0) [85.66%/B+/C+] - Reigning AL Champs have little pitching depth (-3)
8) :ATL: - (0-0) [84.80%/B+/C+] - Offense is loaded w/Morneau, Dunn, Heyward, Uggla, Prado, and Ellsbury / little pitching depth (6)
9) :STL: - (0-0) [84.43%/B/B] - Many cheap veterans and young specs may go unnoticed at first glance… strong Cardinals team again
10) :PIT: - (0-0) [83.43%/B-/B] - Pirates will start off with better pitching and will hope to avoid injuries (10)
11) :HOU: - (0-0) [83.30%/B-/B] - Surprise playoff team from 2010 comes back with vets that do well in this league (Helton) and plenty of bench support and depth (1)
12) :CIN: - (0-0) [83.27%/B/B-] - Little offensive depth, stud players there, some decent pitching but not the greatest (-5)
13) :TOR: - (0-0) [83.04%/C+/B] - Jays lost a lot as focus shifts to pitching (-10)
14) :TB: - (0-0) [82.40%/B/C+] - Better bats than real-life Rays, rotation okay outside of Price, deepest bullpen ever (5)
15) :TEX: - (0-0) [81.40%/B/C+] - Sizemore, Betemit questionable - pitching okay, tough to beat A's (1)
16) :CHW: - (0-0) [80.17%/C+/B-] - I am not a fan of many of the White Sox position players here, but young rotation looks great (-3)
17) :BOS: - (0-0) [78.40%/B-/C] - Zero depth at the positions but some stars there - pitching is average, Red Sox need help (-2)
18) :DET: - (0-0) [77.36%/B/C] - Detroit has offensive potential, but rotation is weak link (-10)
19) :ARZ: - (0-0) [76.00%/C/C] - Bats have improved but will Bautista reproduce '10 campaign?  D'Backs look to build on strong 2nd half (-2)
20) :SF: - (0-0) [75.84%/D/B+] - When will Trout be called up?  Weak bats, little depth, excellent top of rotation (-2)
21) :LAA: - (0-0) [74.24%/D/B] - Yuk…. No offense, can't even fill C/CI positions, pitching is only bright spot (-10)
22) :MIN: - (0-0) [73.30%/C/C] - Twins signed too many aging vets  (3)
23) :CHC: - (0-0) [70.00%/C/D] - Cubs have a bright future, weak bats, and a nice ace in Verlander (-1)
24) :BAL: - (0-0) [67.96%/C/D] - Signed Michael Young, but many guys still in the farm as team is shorthanded (2)
25) :KC: - (0-0) [67.83%/D/D] - Royals can't mature quick enough, Fielder is huge for offense (5)
26) :WAS: - (0-0) [64.80%/C/F] - Nats have offensive potential, but zero pitching (-2)
27) :SEA: - (0-0) [64.34%/F/D] - Many holes, relying on Ackley and Chris Davis
28) :FL: - (0-0) [60.30%/F/D] - Not much has changed here.. Still relying on AAAA talent at most positions
29) :SD: - (0-0) [59.37%/F/D] - Pitching may keep them from being worst team
30) :NYM: - (0-0) [58.87%/F/F] - The Mutts look like the worst team in the league… GM is in question still (-7)

Oh no Johnny Cueto

I am not too worried about Cueto just yet...

Funniest part of the rankings is the NL Central (sans Brewers, Cubbies)

9) :STL: - (0-0) [84.43%/B/B] - Many cheap veterans and young specs may go unnoticed at first glance… strong Cardinals team again
10) :PIT: - (0-0) [83.43%/B-/B] - Pirates will start off with better pitching and will hope to avoid injuries (10)

12) :CIN: - (0-0) [83.27%/B/B-] - Little offensive depth, stud players there, some decent pitching but not the greatest (-5)

I really don't think I am that far away from the Phillies. I will be interested to see what the rankings are come Opening Day, if I can make 1 or 2 more trades in the meantime. With that being said, very good job Colby.

You really think the Mets have less talent than San Diego?  If they do it wont last that way for long, they have that nice salary cap!

  • ldsjayhawk: Trading should be a win-win situation for both teams.
  • dbreer23: Agreed. I think the Devers deal in FGM is a good example of that. Devers gives SD some now (and future) pop, giving up substantial pieces to get him (Mayo, Keith, and one other).

  • Brent: I had Holliday in FGM before I stepped away.

  • Jwalkerjr88: @idsjayhawk i understand that. To be clear, i wasnt judging anyone. I just know in NFL Live, you cant just draft 1-7 rds every year and sign a few FAs and be the champion. It wont happen
    Yesterday at 01:52:08 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: Trading isnt easy. But neither is winning
    Yesterday at 01:52:22 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: If you made a list of the most aggressive gms to have stepped foot in nfl live, you will notice the champions will be among them
    Yesterday at 01:53:06 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: You arent gonna win every trade and you HAVE to have a plan. Ive made some horrible trades. I have every year
    Yesterday at 01:53:50 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: Carolina has kyren williams right now cause i traded him for a 2nd and a 4th. Id rather have kyren today lol
    Yesterday at 01:54:28 PM
  • Brent: Agreed.  I have Amon Ra St. Brown and Aiyuk because I traded JJ.  I couldn't have acquired a player like ASB where I was picking in the 1st so I down tiered at WR to make a trio of Chase, ASB and Aiyuk instead of JJ, Chase and fill in the blank.
  • ldsjayhawk: That is probably even more true in baseball since your drafts don't payoff for 5 years or so.  And I will admit my conservatism may be the reason I only have one championship here at ProFSL

  • BayAreaBallers: on that u havat trade a bit here and there
    Yesterday at 02:25:57 PM
  • BayAreaBallers: although my last draft class and fa class kinda lead me to a run so it can happen
    Yesterday at 02:27:21 PM
  • Brent: Yeah, it does help to have a big draft class and available cap.
  • Brent: I'm contemplating doing a complete tear down in NFL Live and rebuild.  Honestly, I probably should have postered for it to be this season.  I still might, but I would legit need to go into the draft with 3-4 top 10 picks/+ many others.
  • Brent: postured
  • Jwalkerjr88: Yea nailing drafts and some key FAs helps too. But if you remember BAB you traded alvin kamara for the rams 1-7 draft picks. So the extra picks helped you nail the 2023 draft the way you did
    Yesterday at 03:13:02 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: Its the combination of all three that is required is what im saying
    Yesterday at 03:13:31 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: And brent a tear down with you assets would look interesting. Personally i just think you need break one big asset down into 3 good ones and move carr and go from there. But you have an A1 nfl mind so im sure you will nail whatever it is you decide
    Yesterday at 03:14:39 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: *your
  • BayAreaBallers: very good pt yes i did gain lot of capital which propelled me to make more moves from that trade
    Yesterday at 03:34:25 PM
  • Brent: Thank you.  Yes, I agree.  I do need to break one asset down to 3.  I did that with JJ, went from S tier to 2 A tiers.  Now I need to potentially go from an A tier to 3 Bs or something like that.  I've had some inquiries on Carr, but nothing worth moving him.

  • Brent: Who did you draft with the 1st acquired in that trade?

  • Daddy: Whoever it was, he got six more choices on top of that. The "win win" scenario.
