I don't understand the infatuation with Gordon Beckham. Absolutely a good infielder. Compare with McGehee:
G    AB  R    H   2B 3B  HR  RBI    TB    BB   SO  SB  CS     OBP      SLG     AVG
 116 355 58 107  20  1   16   66   177   34    67   0   2      .360     .499     .301

Beckham:
 103 378 58 102   28 1   14   63   174   41    65   7    4     .347      .460     .270
Pretty much comparable and McGehee fended off Gamels who was supposed to be the Brewers top 2 or 3 prospect. Yes, I'm thrilled to get him a N.Feliz for Beckham and a 2A pitcher

If you compare their stats for 2009, definitely very comparable players.  For McGehee to put up that season, even at age 26 and with significant high-minors development time, is impressive and he has a reasonable chance at a good future.  For Beckham to do it at age 22, one season in the minors is just much more impressive IMO, and gives reason to think his ceiling is much higher.  How will it play out?  Who knows...

If you're going to evaluate based on 2009 stats alone, Daniel Hudson is no 2A pitcher...

I'll stand by the trade.

As you should... It was a swap of some great young players - only time will tell how it works out, and the consensus view on a prospect is hardly an exact predictor (neither Beckham nor Feliz are sure things).

Exactly. Speculation on prospects is scary. Jay Bruce came thru the system and was MiLB POY. Had a good rookie year and then 2009...ouch. I had an asset and, I think, turned it into two assets. Time will tell.

I also think the A's has improved the most as they have so little to work with to begin with. Brewers also improved but they already have a good team to begin with.

Jay Bruce has hit over 20 homers in two shortened seasons in the Majors, most guys are still in A, or AA ball. Given his pace he would have hit 30 homers last year. Hardly an "ouch" year for a 22 year old. His BABIP last year was around .200. So his low batting average was due to extremely bad luck. He is never going to put up an OBP of .400, that is not the type of hitter he is, not even when he was destroying the minor leagues. No one is bagging on you for making the trade, but most people, quote un quote experts as well, feel that Gordon Beckham will be a star for many years to come, and from an middle infield position. And as far as Gamel goes, the guy could not play third base at all. Not even barely like Ryan Braun could before he got shipped to left field. The Brewers had no room to move him to the OF. Plus IMHO - Gamel will never be the player everyone thought he was going to be.

I voted for the Rockies.  Landing Hudson, Haren, and especially Justin Upton, while holding onto Hawpe and Tulo, should ensure his team will contend in that division next year.

  • ldsjayhawk: Trading should be a win-win situation for both teams.

  • dbreer23: Agreed. I think the Devers deal in FGM is a good example of that. Devers gives SD some now (and future) pop, giving up substantial pieces to get him (Mayo, Keith, and one other).

  • Jwalkerjr88: @idsjayhawk i understand that. To be clear, i wasnt judging anyone. I just know in NFL Live, you cant just draft 1-7 rds every year and sign a few FAs and be the champion. It wont happen

  • Jwalkerjr88: Trading isnt easy. But neither is winning

  • Jwalkerjr88: Carolina has kyren williams right now cause i traded him for a 2nd and a 4th. Id rather have kyren today lol
    Yesterday at 01:54:28 PM
  • Brent: Agreed.  I have Amon Ra St. Brown and Aiyuk because I traded JJ.  I couldn't have acquired a player like ASB where I was picking in the 1st so I down tiered at WR to make a trio of Chase, ASB and Aiyuk instead of JJ, Chase and fill in the blank.
  • ldsjayhawk: That is probably even more true in baseball since your drafts don't payoff for 5 years or so.  And I will admit my conservatism may be the reason I only have one championship here at ProFSL

  • Brent: Yeah, it does help to have a big draft class and available cap.
  • Brent: I'm contemplating doing a complete tear down in NFL Live and rebuild.  Honestly, I probably should have postered for it to be this season.  I still might, but I would legit need to go into the draft with 3-4 top 10 picks/+ many others.
  • Brent: postured
  • Jwalkerjr88: Yea nailing drafts and some key FAs helps too. But if you remember BAB you traded alvin kamara for the rams 1-7 draft picks. So the extra picks helped you nail the 2023 draft the way you did
    Yesterday at 03:13:02 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: Its the combination of all three that is required is what im saying
    Yesterday at 03:13:31 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: And brent a tear down with you assets would look interesting. Personally i just think you need break one big asset down into 3 good ones and move carr and go from there. But you have an A1 nfl mind so im sure you will nail whatever it is you decide

  • BayAreaBallers: very good pt yes i did gain lot of capital which propelled me to make more moves from that trade
    Yesterday at 03:34:25 PM
  • Brent: Thank you.  Yes, I agree.  I do need to break one asset down to 3.  I did that with JJ, went from S tier to 2 A tiers.  Now I need to potentially go from an A tier to 3 Bs or something like that.  I've had some inquiries on Carr, but nothing worth moving him.

  • Brent: Who did you draft with the 1st acquired in that trade?
  • Daddy: Whoever it was, he got six more choices on top of that. The "win win" scenario.
  • Daddy: At that time i had no RB1. So i traded an entire draft class to get one.
