The Yankees and Tigers have agreed to the following deal:

Tigers send:
OF George Springer (MLB - $440k in 2016, arb until 2020)

Yankees send:
1B Greg Bird (AA - minor league contract)
OF Ian Happ (single A - minor league contract)
C Reese McGuire (single A - minor league contract)
OF Christin Stewart (AA - minor league contract)

I make this trade to get another solid young piece to try to build around. Springer solidifies my OF for the foreseeable future, so dealing 2 OFs doesn't hurt as much as it could. I hate to give up Greg Bird, but I still feel he's blocked in New York so I don't see him helping me as soon as I would like.

The Tigers make this trade because, while Springer has turned into an excellent player, it's important for us to keep getting as many strong prospects as possible for major league assets. None of these players has the individual upside of Springer (though Happ is somewhat close) but they all stand a good chance of becoming big league contributors in future years.
