RFA will happen before regular Free Agency in the off-season. We do the draft, then we do RFA, then UFA.

No the cut off is the start of RFA period. If you have the rights when RFA starts, the rights stay with you. You cannot trade the player till after the player's bid has been matched. If Utah doesn't extend Mitchel, they have up until the trade deadline to trade him or when trading opens back up in the off-season. But as soon as RFA opens up, the RFA is locked to whatever team has him. The only team that will get him is the team with the rights or the team with the winning bid. After they have a new contract, they can then be traded.

Yes. It’s just like real life. Division winner is guaranteed to make playoffs. Likely as the 8 seed lol

The rules here say division winners get in, so I am not suggesting that is changed now.
But I am pretty sure division winners don't automatically make the playoffs in the real NBA.

Yes they do. There is no point to divisions if winning the division doesn’t guarantee you a playoff berth.

A couple of years ago it used to be winning the division guaranteed an NBA team a top 4 seed in the playoffs. Now a division title just guarantees the playoff berth, not the high seed

Can a player be extended if the extension puts the team over the salary cap in the future?

I was under the impression a team had to have the cap space to extend someone, but it looks like Boston is extending Tatum for $30M per year, which would put Boston's team salary next year at about $130M.
