Tampa Bay/Washington
« on: August 09, 2015, 10:42:24 PM »
Minor deal between two division rivals-

:WAS-NHL: recieves:
Dan Girardi, $3.1m (2016-17)
*Nathan Beaulieu, $0.8m (2016-17)
:TBL-NHL: Round 5

:TBL: receives:
:WAS-NHL: Round 3

Not much to see here. :TBL: acquire a 3rd round pick in a very deep draft in exchange for a young offensive dman with plenty of upside, but still learning his way in the NHL and a decent dman, but too expensive for me. The 5th round pick made it work for Ryan.

I really needed the cap relief ($3.1m for two years is huge) and the 3rd was nice. Girardi was expendable and I had plenty of defensemen.

Thanks Ryan for the quick deal and here's to many more in the future!

Ryan+TC to confirm.

:WAS-NHL: confirms this deal.

Girardi will help with depth. I have the cap room so that is no worry. And I get a nice young defenseman. Thanks for the deal Mark!

The 5th Is a bit of an overpayment, but not so much that it makes the deal too bad.  :iatp: Washington wins this one, but I have seen people make steeper payments for cap space.

I don't understand why Beaulieu (a first-round prospect) is included. He projects as a top 3 Defenceman. At 1.49 PPG Giardi alone is worth the space. That package is worth at least a 2nd as it is or a 4th straight across for Giardi without Beaulieu or the 5th included.

I would also approve it as is if Beaulie was scratched out of the equation and the rest left alone . Otherwise, my stand is veto.

I understand Slack.

Mark came to me wanting to clear cap.  I asked who he had in mind and he said Jordie Benn and Girardi.  He then waived Benn, and asked about Girardi.  I said I needed a spec to take on his contract and asked for a list.  Beaulieu was on that list, so I chose him.  I originally offered a 4th in the deal and Mark asked for a 3rd.  I said add the 5th and we are good.

I know this isn't going to change your mind, just wanted to put some rational on the deal.  I don't value Girardi much, but I see how their is value to him for the league.

Thanks for the rationale and the understanding. Yes, it still seems one-sided to me but that's just one opinion. Let's get some more feedback here Backyard!

I think this is a terrible deal for Tampa and is very one sided. Girardi has been Tampa's second best D-man. And is practically the same as the newly signed Stralman for fantasy points/cap, IF Stralman continues like last year. Beaulieu still has a lot of upside and d-man mature slower than forwards.  A 3 rounder is a terrible return for these players, especially since other teams are more willing to trade 3 rounders than 1sts or 2nds.

On the other hand, Tampa is pretty close to the cap and is at both major and minor league roster limits, so in that case they have to make some kind of moves.

I was very close to vetoing and needed to think about it for a while, but I approve this trade because I don't view it as detrimental to the team or the league. Tampa is just getting hosed.

I know that :TBL: need cap relief but at what price ?

Beaulieu $0.8m would be a good answer to replace Girardi $3.1m once waiver free open .

In a trade there is always a winner and a loser sometimes it's hard to tell who won and other time it's obvious who won but still can be approve for different reason and in this case the cap is not a good enough reason to pass it so  :veto:

I really think Beaulieu should not be part of this trade .  :toth:
