Cincinnati Reds History :CIN:

2021: 3rd in NL Central, (47-115)
In spite of an improvement of 25 games in the win column, the :CIN: are a team in turmoil.  The 2021 season saw two different GMs abandon the team.  The team is in the throes of a rebuild, but has some available cap to improve it's roster during the 2022 free agency period.  Hopefully, the :CIN: will find a GM who is willing to commit to bringing the team to a competitive level.

2020: 6th in Central Division (22-36)
The :CIN: showed some signs of improvement in 2020.  With the revival of Maikel Franco and the emergence of Kyle Tucker, the :CIN: have some assets to build around.  Pitching is a major area of need, so it has to be an area of emphasis if the :CIN: hope to be competitive in the NL Central.

2019: 4th in NL Central, (23-139)
The :CIN: continued their slide, but managed to move up one place in the standings.  With an aging Albert Pujols, an underperforming Maikel Franco, and a host of depth type players, the :CIN: need an infusion of talent to reach a more competitive level.

2018: 5th in NL Central, (46-116)
Cahler, alias Doubleyou, took over the team for about five months, but hightailed it out of Dodge before the start of the season.  Frankbullsfan stepped in and took over the team, but with offseason free agency practically over, he was not able to add much to his roster.  Consequently, the :CIN: sank to the depths of the NL Central and were able to win only half as much as the previous season.

2017: 4th in NL Central, (92-70)
No janesvilleas, enter TarHeels55, a ProFSL veteran, as the latest :CIN: GM.  Experience is a great teacher, and the team showed improvement, but there was no climb in the standings.  Unfortunately, the revolving door continued as there was another resignation at the end of the season.  As such, until there is some stability, the team will continue to flounder.

2016: 4th in NL Central, (28-128)
There was a little improvement, and as frustrations grew, GM jblum decided to resign at the end of the season.  The team is still spinning its wheels and underperforming, so at season’s end, the :CIN: decided to turn the team over to janesvilleas, but that decision was ill-fated, as the new GM left the following February.

2015: 4th in NL Central, (12-78)
The bottom fell out in 2015.  The win total fell to only 15 and the road to success seemed to be a dead end metaphorically.  The hitters were not competitive and the rotation took a step backward.  What will the future bring?  As the old saying goes, “Only time will tell.”

2014: 4th in NL Central, (61-80)
The :CIN: had another GM change, the third in three years, and the team was taken over by jblum.  The changeover had little effect, as the :CIN: experienced a win-loss total of -19, and the team was relegated to 4th place in the NL Central.

2013: 5th in NL Central, (83-77)
A new GM, spacemountain2000, same overall result.  The win total improved to +6, but the :CIN: still languished at the bottom of the NL Central.  The roster featured a strong pitching staff, but with the exception of Brandon Belt, the everyday lineup left much to be desired.

2012: 4th in NL Central, (51-90)
The :CIN: can’t seem to get off the ground, so there was an upper management decision to allow Dan Wood to move on to another team at the end of the season.  As in the past, the team struggled again and remained in the lower echelons of the league.

2011: 5th in NL Central, (47-94)
The :CIN: added SPs Shaun Marcum and Zach Britton, and they did well, but the everyday lineup, besides Ike Davis and Josh Hamilton, didn’t fare as well.  The win total slipped and, consequently, the team slipped in the standings.

2010: 4th in NL Central, (12-10)
The :CIN: virtually duplicated the previous season, although they did finish above .500.  With Josh Hamilton and Justin Upton in their everyday lineup, it would seem that they are developing a good core to build around.

2009: 4th in NL Central, (75-87)
In the inaugural season of Franchise GM, GM Dan Wood was only able to guide his team to a sub .500 record.  The 4th place finish means that there is room for improvement if the :CIN: are going to climb into playoff contention.

  • Daddy: @Alpha if a team in MLB LIVE has two starting 1Bs then there is also a team without one.
  • ldsjayhawk: @jwalker I make like 2-3 trades a year for each of my baseball teams, maybe.  I'll tell you part of the reason I don't trade.  Every trade discussion starts out with the other team wanting my top prospect regardless of what I am trading for.  I am not trading Jackson Holliday for your backup catcher who is going to play 20 games this year.

  • ldsjayhawk: @Alpha I do make trades.  I am just not giving up the entire farm to land a guy I can get out of the FA pool
    Today at 12:59:21 PM
  • ldsjayhawk: Trading should be a win-win situation for both teams.
  • dbreer23: Agreed. I think the Devers deal in FGM is a good example of that. Devers gives SD some now (and future) pop, giving up substantial pieces to get him (Mayo, Keith, and one other).
