Discussion: Deadlines for ABO's
« on: May 01, 2015, 01:12:57 PM »
What do you think of extending the Amnesty Buy-out period to enable new GM's to get rid of players that should have been dropped by GM's that quit instead? A GM that decides not to return at the end of the finals isn't likely to make any moves for the benefit of the franchise.

Look at :TOR-NHL: currently as a mock example. That franchise has $12m tied up in goalies that likely won't play next year....any GM that takes over would benefit from access to the ABO program if it were extended through the Summer.

What do you think?

I'll leave it to PR since he created the ABO and probably set it up the way he did for a reason.

As far as :TOR-NHL: Toronto goes. They said they are back man. :toast:

Personally I like the ABO period for 2wks. We also allow for postdating which is something Snugerud did his 1st time around FNHL with NYI cleaning up the last owner's mess. LOL

After that the other key ways to get rid of contracts are through trades and buyouts.

Thinking of the ABO, it's not even the best way to dump and burn a bad contract.

It's the 2nd best way to do that.

IMO the best way to get rid of a worthless or overvalued contract is to eat it up with a 1yr BO if you have the cap or trade it to a team that has plenty of cap space to eat it end of yr just before contracts rollover so nothing's left on the books.

ABOs stick through the life of the deal which sucks even if it's a 40% BO.

Having a 2 week period is fine but it doesn't make the most sense for that period to start before GM's have committed for the next season.

Well Yes and No. Depends which end of the season you want to call the head or the azzzzz for recruiting new owners. By the start of the season it's too late to bring in guys to shape a team. We prefer to recruit in the Spring so they can get in to do contract cleanup, ABO, handle contract rollover, jump into FA and draft!

So we should know who's in or out by the end of the Finals like we do this season. That's what PR wants and I think it's working out so far.

What do you think?

In fact Thunderblade is a wise man for waiting out Nabby. WHY?
Because Nabokov qualifies for the 40% retirement buyout which can be used on a 1yr BO. Whereas the ABO would've forced him to complete the BO over the remaining life of the contract.

Evgeni Nabokov, $4.7m (2014-2017) costs $5.6m (2014-2015) - 1yr retirement b/o

You're missing the point PPG. It is not about how people do their buy-outs. But at what point they are committed to staying on as GM.

I will put it differently. It seems backwards to determine whether we need replacement GM's AFTER the ABO period. Right?

Anyway, just drop it. It would be a small improvement but it's no big deal. Especially if new GM's can make use of ABO's retroactively. If that is the case you have essentially addressed the issue I raise.

  • Brent: Agreed.  I have Amon Ra St. Brown and Aiyuk because I traded JJ.  I couldn't have acquired a player like ASB where I was picking in the 1st so I down tiered at WR to make a trio of Chase, ASB and Aiyuk instead of JJ, Chase and fill in the blank.
  • ldsjayhawk: That is probably even more true in baseball since your drafts don't payoff for 5 years or so.  And I will admit my conservatism may be the reason I only have one championship here at ProFSL

  • Brent: I'm contemplating doing a complete tear down in NFL Live and rebuild.  Honestly, I probably should have postered for it to be this season.  I still might, but I would legit need to go into the draft with 3-4 top 10 picks/+ many others.
