I should clarify not to drop it this season but the following season.

This years cap will not change since it's based on the 11/12 NHL cap number.  Our 13/14 season would be based on the 12/13 NHL cap number.

leave it the same!!! Roll it back I have soo much cap space  just kiddin

I am sure we will see a drop but wait and see what the number will be then adjust accordingly. It would be very unfair to a lot of GM who planned this seassonj on 1 huge cap number only to see it drop by 20M

Yeah, it won't be until later but I think it's useful to talk about now.

Plus I get that some GMs initial plan for certain amounts of cap space. That's why I like a % based rollback on contracts and extensions, because the % of cap space teams have now will still be the % they have after a rollback.

I'm glad the most frugal team in the league is so concerned about the cap, maybe you should worried about a salary floor Bean. lol  :toast:

I have a proposal for this in my head.  Let me do the math and I'll make a post today or tomorrow about it.

Did we ever figure out what we are doing about this? It might affect some teams going into the trade deadline.

There won't be any change.  The cap will increase next season like it did in the real NHL.  It will then decrease for 14/15, matching the NHL's decrease (percentage-wise).

I think we should keep our projected 13/14 salary cap and adjust for the new CBA for the 14/15 season.  Our cap has always been tied to the real salary cap and since this years is essentially unaffected by the CBA (teams can still spend the prorated cap that was announced pre-lockout), our cap for next season should probably also be unaffected.  This will give teams more time to adjust to the cap decrease.  Here's my cap projections for the next couple years:

12/13 - $75.8m
13/14 - $82.8m
14/15 - $75.8m

This is scaled directly from the NHL cap, which looks like this:

11/12 - $64.3m
12/13 - $70.2m (pro-rated)
13/14 - $64.3m

We always lag a year behind the actual league, as do our extension values (which I haven't updated yet).

Now, assuming everyone agrees to this structure (and I am open to your input) do we want to include amnesty buyouts like the NHL did prior to our 14/15 season?  We have more time to adjust, unlike the actual league.  So I'm not sure if it's necessary or not.  I think if we do buyouts we should only do 1 each since we get the extra year to adjust.  They should also only be allowed at the end of the 13/14 season.

Thoughts?

We haven't talked about allowing free drops since this thread, but I'm leaning heavily towards no drops.  We have plenty of time to adjust to the cap decrease.  I'll bump the discussion topic in case anyone feels strongly about including drops.

I read it as our cap for the start of next year is 82.8m and then the start of the year after it goes down to 75.8m.  So we have all of this year and all of next to basically get down to where we are at now.
