Cubs deal Reyes again, this time to ATL
« on: June 24, 2010, 01:13:42 PM »
:CHC: to :ATL:
MI Reyes, Jose, $6m (2011) + $3m from Cubs in 2010
P Fister, Doug, $0.5m (P-n/a)
C Conger, Hank, $0.5m (P-n/a)

:ATL: to :CHC:
CI Alonso, Yonder, $1m (2012)
CI-MI Stewart, Ian, $0.5m (P-2011)
SP Myers, Brett, $3m (2010)
X-SP Myers, Brett, RS money from PHI, $-3m in 2010
ATL 8-22

MTK has been trying to get Reyes off my hands for a while.  I held out for the best deal possible.  I gain an MI replacement, SP reinforcements, and a top CI prospect.

Mike did hold out, but I believe we both played our hands well. Stewart is worrying me a little bit and struggling. Myers would have been a tough resign for me given his current ranking of 2nd overall RP which warrants 13.5 mil per.  The real stinger for me here is Alonso. I have turned down many deals that contained his name purely because it included him. I get Conger who I absolutely love (along with Alonso) so that eased the pain along with me having 2 good CI's at the MLB level already and Freeman, Moreland, and Allen in my farm. Fister replaces Myers in the rotation. Fister may not pan out, but he has done well so far and he is on a prospect contract so there is very little risk on my part. Then of course I got Reyes who is reportedly already in contract negotiations with the Brave hierarchy.

Mike, it was fun and I think we both got the good side lol.

Mike, you do realize that Conger is a year younger and outhitting the overated Alonso right?

Myers = Fister + 3M
Alsonso = Conger
Stewart =? Reyes

Not questioning your intelligence, but my personal opinion is you are getting ripped off big time.

Well it wont help a whole lot, but I forgot that Myers was free for me so to keep the money close I could thrown in Melvin Mora 2m (2010). He is getting some playing time.

Fister may not pan out and Myers is good trade bait (see my attempt with Phillies).  Alonso isn't hitting as well as Conger is in AAA but the ceiling is higher and he is at a power position.  Meanwhile, Stewart pales in comparison to Reyes, but Jose is injury prone and has had some issues in the past couple years (so has Stewart)... so I feel a get a cheaper version of that liability.

Mike, would you be interested in taking Mora in the deal to even money?

(I may not have cap given im currently winning a FA bid also.)

Not interested... and if Howe thinks I am getting ripped off then it does me no good to make the trade worse and take on Mora.

fair enough. Mora is getting playing time though and is Stewart's backup so I thought it would make sense if you had him. Atleast that was my thinking we I acquired them from the Athletics.
