FGM Announcement - Please Read

Roy I started a list and will finish it mid August...I think we should start it at the end of the season, giving everyone a chance to resign their current players at the current prices. When the books switch over, then we can switch over the values.  When I originally posted this, I had grand aspirations that it wasn't going to take as much time.

 

Likewise, the market values should be based on our top annual salaries and not MLB.

Colby that is contradictory to what you and I had originally discussed. We had agreed that the salaries would be changed to reflect the MLB salaries and not the curve that FGM is following.

I feel like I keep contradicting myself on this one.  Reflecting MLB salaries will force us to follow the economics of traditional baseball which adds more strategy to our league.  For instance, a smart GM will let a good reliever go to FA, take the draft pick, and not sign them to a $50m deal.

True...but for starters the whole draft pick compensation has changed. More to the point with the way things are going in 6 years the highest paid player will be making 8 million dollars. We don't have young players telling us 'no' to prospect extensions, they just get one. Now I think the prospect extension was a great addition to this league (not just because I came up with it), but since we don't have to negotiate with our young uns, it will eventually lead to a league wide lowered salary ceiling. If no stars are making star money, then there will be no way to associate the MLB/FGM component. We will have completely removed it entirely. Instead of changing it annually, maybe every two years.

But there are other things that real life ball clubs have to worry about that we dont, and that is TV contracts, fans, merchandise, etc. We are not beholden to any of that in this league, where as our real life counterparts are. Walt Jocketty needs attendance, he needs to sell Joey Votto to Reds fans. Whether my team is good or bad has no effect on my team outside of a slim decline in salary cap. So I would not go out of my way to overpay for a Ryan Ludwick to give me a few extra wins to keep Joe Reds fan interested.
