Processing Trades
« on: May 19, 2010, 11:56:58 AM »
I would like to institute a policy that trades that are made during the week will not be processed until the following week. Meaning if a trade is made on Monday, you will not see the player on your roster until you play your following weeks opponent. For starters if this was a weekly league, this wouldn't even be an issue, but it seems we are a daily league. Second, when trades are processed during the week of the trade, the two trading parties lose stats for both the players traded, and the players received. Some of these match ups end up being really close, and I wouldn't want to have a team lose a match up, because they were playing 4 players on one night - cough cough, me this week.

I would like to hear the RCs thoughts on this

Monday morning trades... this is something that hopefully something that Jake and I can do if Dan is unavailable.  Would Sunday evening trades work?  I didn't think stats already recorded were lost?

I can't imagine stats are lost for a player if he plays three days for a team, then moves to another team for the remaining four days.  Do we have any evidence of this?

If so, I'll definitely agree that trades should be processed Sunday evening/Monday morning.

I know for a fact that I still have the 63 points Ryan Doumit got me before I traded him.

I got evidence. I got no points from the guys I received yesterday, or the guys I traded yesterday. You lose a day of stats. Go look at me vs. the Brewers. Helton finally went yard, I didn't get the points for that. I also didn't get any points for the guys that I received. So regardless of when the trade is made, the day that the transaction is posted will be null for all involved parties.

Maybe for the day, however I feel like this is realistic. When trades happen in the MLB that guy doesn't stick around and play for a team he no longer belongs to. He is usually on a plane and in a new jersey a day or 2 later...

This is all true, but, as I have said before, we are reactionary to what the MLB does. We cannot just plug a bench player in for the day while we wait for the guy to show up. We don't have that option. We can't call a guy up from AAA to give us stats unless that guy happens to be on our roster and per chance gets called up. So yes we are in a similar situation as the MLB, but without the player movement options. In real life if the Reds traded Joey Votto to whoever. The Reds would have someone ready to take his spot, either on the bench, or in the minors. Here I, and we, don't have that kind of roster power. Plus we also have a cut off as to when we can make Fantrax moves for that day, which is another handicap.

I thought you said, "He is usually on a plane and in New Jersey..."  That is true most of the time with new players going to the Yankees via Newark airport.

BTW, some of the lineup problems post-trade and mid-week in our league appear to have been resolved.  I do think we could do better by processing trades at the end of the week... OR the commissioner makes sure an optimal lineup is set for the day of the trade (or day after if during game play).

For example, Dan and I couldn't figure out why newly acquired Mike Aviles could not start in either the MI or Util position.  The scoring system restricts him to one of those positions for the week, so we expected only one of them to work, not both of them not working.  Here is my email chain with Fantrax from yesterday on it...

Quote
We are having issues in my Franchise GM leagues with trades.  If a player is traded, such as MI Mike Aviles then the new team is unable to start them.  It mentions the scoring system and how the player cannot change positions.  The only possible positions for Aviles to start is MI and UT.  One of them should work under this situation, but neither of them does.  You can test it out for yourself by checking the Cincinnati Reds roster in the league.  Please let me know if this is a bug or if there is something else that needs to be done.

Fantrax: Mike Aviles is already set to MI, so I'm not clear on what the problem is. Please clarify, and include the exact steps you're taking. Also going forward, please use the Feedback Form to contact us, instead of the Request New Players feature. You will get a quicker response.

Quote
Aviles is set to MI but as a reserve. The system won't allow setting him as active.  I'll make sure I'll use the feedback form from now on.

Fantrax: Which period do you want to set him to Active for?

Quote
ASAP... It is too late to set him active for today.  I tried doing that this morning.

Fantrax: This should be working now. You can use Commissioner Mode in the Team Roster screen to retroactively Activate him for today's period.

Quote
Was there a bug in the system that has been fixed?

Fantrax: Yes, a very obscure bug that hadn't been uncovered until now.
