Scheduling Changes for 2012
« on: March 04, 2012, 06:02:36 PM »
Franchise GM will need to have a custom schedule once again this year.  I recommend going with two scoring periods per week.  The first week can force all teams to start 40-40 + their wins and losses that week.

There are 26 weeks in the MLB regular season.

Weeks 25.5-26 are World Series
Weeks 24-25.5 are LCS
Weeks 23-24 are LDS
Week 22.5 is Wildcard match according to new MLB playoff rules

This leaves 21*2 + 1 = 43 scoring periods.  I recommend taking two scoring periods off for the all-star game leaving us with 41 periods left.  Two opponents per scoring period equals 82 fantasy matchups.  Those + the mean regressive 40-40 record that all teams start with adds up to 162 games.

What are everyone's thoughts on this and are there any volunteers for creating and administering the schedule?

I think Corey worked out a really solid schedule for Moneyball...I'm kind of on board using that one for FGM

Two scoring periods per week is too short from my point of view. When a team has most players from the same team and the team has 3 games s a rival with 4 games during the same scoring period the difference is way too big. Over a week that difference is insignificant. All fantasy leagues that I have been in that use two scoring periods per week turn out to be a mess.

Well, we can go with weekly scoring periods like last year.  It worked out well although I think we need teams to start 40-40 to make the records more realistic.

Plus, we need to figure out the playoff schedule first and foremost before the regular season is defined.

Colby I understand your wanting to go for realism, but some teams don't even have full rosters. If a team in MLB showed up with 7 guys in the field chances are they would take a loss.

Is it possible to go with the real life MLB schedule, and take the last two weeks and spread them out throughout the season?

The real-life MLB schedule could work.  We would have to take more than the last two weeks to spread out over the regular season.

We should end the season with the World Series spanning the last full week and days following.  Championship and Divisional Series should each be one week.  What about the new wildcard matches?

The schedule created for Moneyball, could easily be used here for this league as well. But there is no interleague play
