A's - Angels Trade

The A's and Angels have come to an agreement after 24 hours of talks.  The Angels will be sending:

Justin Smoak - $0.5 (P-n/a)
Nyjer Morgan - $0.5 (P-2010)

in exchange for:

Trevor Cahill - $0.5 (P-2012)
Gio Gonzalez - $0.5 (P-2012)
Daric Barton - $0.5 (P-2011)

The Angels were in dire need of pitching of any sort, and acquiring a top prospect such as Cahill really fits for our team.  Gonzalez is a middle line prospect, but the Angels enjoy his K per inning.  Barton is mostly a filler for the CI spot that the Angels lose.   :koolaid:

The A's agree to this trade. 

We are sorry to see Cahill go, but filling a CI position is very important.  Smoak will be very good and resonably priced for a few years.  Morgan had a very good year last year and will improve with a better, more mature lineup around him. 

Gio and Barton, do not have exacts roles going forward and will be battling for PT.  There is a chance to breakout for both, but we have been saying that for years.

Morgan has floated around a lot in the past several months... PIT to FL to LAA and now to OAK!  BTW, this marks the 300th player being moved so far... many moves made in the past couple weeks!
