I am not sure what the extension works out to, I need help with this.  But I would like to extend Jair.

His rank is 141 in 2010 (804 fpts)
His rank is 110 in 2011 (998 fpts)

Contract value is $1m, but to use prospect extension it is minimum $4m for 5 years.  Also, if allowed, this would have been processed before the books flipped and would be good through 2016.

Prospect Extension (went into effect after 2010 season)
Any player who is currently under a prospect contract may be signed to a regular contract extension (see below), but they may also be signed to a prospect extension.  Such an extension must be a 5-year deal where the annual salary is X% of their market value.  The resulting annual salary must be no less than $4m.  No matter what the current prospect contract is, the prospect extension kicks in the following year at the rate based on when the contract is given.

For the 20XX season, the following percentages would be used per prospect status.

20XX - 60%
20XX+1 - 50%
20XX+2 - 40%
20XX+3, n/a - 30%

There is a window after the season in which the multipliers above are still in effect.  This was a rule effective June 16th, 2011 for expiring prospect contracts.  Prospect extensions on expired prospect contracts will be the only type of extensions allowable for expired contracts in the offseason.  Therefore, after the 2011 regular season is over, a P-2011 contract is still eligible for the prospect extension at the 2011 rate.  This window for prospect extensions is open until one week prior to the beginning of offseason free agency.

Prospect extensions can still be made for P-2011 players. The contract extension would need to be a prospects extension so San Diego's option are to not resign or to resign to a $4M 2016 contract.

I asked the same question before, and I was told that the rules were never updated to reflect earlier deadlines.  This is cut from the attached thread:

All (2011) non-prospect contracts must be resigned by 1:00 PM EST on Oct. 1, 2011.  All prospect contracts (P-2011) must be resigned by 1:00 PM EST on Oct. 15, 2011.

Any players with expiring contracts not signed by these dates will be placed in the Free Agent Pool.

Yeah 10/15 was the last day to sign prospect extensions...it was made very apparent by Colby and Rob

If the deadline was changed than I guess we go by that. Can it be updated in the rules now since the current rules state otherwise?

We are organizing an audit of the Rules and Rulings.  This was changed in the deadlines.

im just trying to figure it out..can i exend him or no....and deadlines werent clear thats the only reason im confused

The deadline for P-2011 contracts was changed to October 15th so he can't be extended.
