Trade: New York Knicks/New Orleans Pelicans

The New York Knicks and New Orleans Pelicans agree to the following trade.  The Pelicans do this to improve the overall talent on their team with a couple young guards while taking on their cap hits.  I can take on the cap hit as I not too active in FA while DSJ and Ntilikina have RFA rights going into next season which gives me flexibility on their future based on performance.  Thanks for the negotiations.  Knicks to confirm. 

New York Knicks trade:
PG Dennis Smith Jr $5.7 (2021) RFA
PG Frank Ntilikina $6.2 (2021) RFA

for

New Orleans Pelicans trade:
PG Josh Gray $0.5M (2022)
SF Zylan Cheatham $0.5M (2022)



Roster note:  To make room for DSJ and Ntilikina, please send Killian Tillie and Omer Yurtseven to the G-league when the traded processes.

New York makes this trade to clear up an additional $10M in cap space and create two empty roster spots without a cap hit.

While we believe Dennis Smith Jr and Frank Ntilikina still have a chance to turn around their careers unloading them became necessary. The $10M in additional cap space gives me the flexibility to significantly increase my bids on the current free agents I am pursuing. The two additional roster spots give me the space to sign the free agents I am currently pursuing.
