There's chatter that the NHL could let all teams end the "regular season" with 71 games played and start the Playoffs immediately. If that scenario plays out, our FNHL playoffs would not work.Perhaps a suggestion would be to repurpose the remainder of the 2019-20 FNHL playoffs and plug it into the start of the 2020-21 NHL season's schedule. Just a suggestion.
The NHL and NHLPA are not at odds so for sure they will make damn sure the season continues in a few weeks or a few months even if it mean a delay to the start of the 2020-21 season. It's all about $$$ and both the NHL and NHLPA want to make up for lost $$$ due to the current PAUSE. Count on it.
Talk of a possible 31 team playoff format with no regular season makes sense. That would nudge us toward Option 1 with the FNHL playoffs setup in parallel with the 2020-21 season regular. We’ll see what happens.
I'm starting to think the NHL might resume in late Summer and play games in neutral sites in a tournament style format. At least to conclude the 2019-20 season. Then for the 2020-21 season, I'm guessing the NHL will start in November and play a shortened season with limited capacity in arenas. That's what I'm guessing given how things have been playing out both in the US and what I notice in Canada.
