Baltimore/Diamondbacks Renegotiated deal
« on: October 19, 2011, 05:55:23 PM »
Baltimore Orioles Receive

OF Ellsbury, Jacoby, $6.5m (2015)
SP Zambrano, Carlos, $18.5m (2012)

Arizona Diamondbacks Receive

SP Miller, Andrew, $0.5m (2012)
P Detwiler, Ross, $0.5m (P-2012)
MI d'Arnaud, Chase, $0.5m (P-2014)---(should still be on a P-NA contract due to the fact he played in 48 games this year which is less than the 50 game limit)
P Dwyer, Christopher, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Mitchell, Jared, $0.5m (P-n/a)

Orioles are giving up Andrew Miller and Ross Detwiler who pitched in the majors this year and will be given oppurtunities to be in the starting rotations with there teams.  D'arnaud will be given every oppurtunity to earn the SS job for the pirates out of spring training and will be quite valuable to the diamondbacks.  Dwyer is a legitimate prospect for the royals.  Was ranked in the top 100 by baseball america last year.  Stats looked a little down but FIP shows he pitched better than his stats and scouting reports still look good.  Mitchell was once a high draft pick and had a down year in High A.  He was a football player in college and didnt focus on baseball until being drafted by the white sox in the 1st round at 23rd overall.  Could be a late bloomer and should get better with more reps in the minors.

Taking on Zambrano is a big burden salary cap wise and a negative but I should have enough cap room to look to improve my team in FA.  Ellsbury had an amazing year this year and finally found a power stroke.  However that can be short lived (see Joe Mauer 2009 vs 2010) and has no guarantee of happening again.  Only one year removed from missing all but 18 games and posting a -3.6 score.  Scored just under 3000 the year before so is somewhere between a top 15 to 20 outfielder.

This took a while to put back together but both sides have agreed that this is a fair deal and will help our teams going forward.

There are multiple pieces that can help ARZ in the future, while Balt gets Ells on good contract.

  • Jwalkerjr88: It was dallas. I think he missed the playoffs that year. Then used the draft picks on the 2021 class. Every pick was the 32nd pick (dont remembee what the other 1st became)
  • Jwalkerjr88: Idk if anyone remembers the 2021 class but it was weak on offense outside or the top 10-15. I dont regret the deal just learned and move on. As long as you have assets, you can mold your build how you want. Picks are usually the most valuable asset because most gms want in on a draft.
  • Jwalkerjr88: The results of that draft class is here [link]
  • Jwalkerjr88: Every 32 overall pick dallas makes in each round came from that trade
    Yesterday at 10:20:54 PM
