I believe that Drew must be released to meet the Cap requirements of the Draft, in which Washington was over the Cap.

How does a player with dual position eligibility show different point values based on the search criterion used?  Bautista's total 2011 point value is 5,652 if you search under All Hitters or OF, but it is 4,913 if you search under CI.  There are similar variances for his 2010 point totals as well.  Imo, this could be a problem in terms of extension values.

My follow up concern would be paying him based on his CI ranking and using him as an OF going forward.

It's because of the difference in his defense totals. It has happened before, and it was brought up last year in regards to Jamey Carroll scoring so high. It was because he was able to be used in the OF, while mostly playing in the IF. It's a loophole in the system that no one has really come up with a solution for. We moved the GP requirements up to help impede this in the future. Plus in about a year it won't matter since Lawrie is a lock at 3B in Toronto. But yes, I do understand and share your concern, but no system is perfect.

My suggestion would be to use his "real" point totals under All Hitters for extension purposes, because he did accumulate those points for the fantasy teams he played for this year regardless of position.  That means that his new salary would be A-Rod's 27.5M per year, not 22.5M.

Bautista was actually #1 at OF and #1 at CI.  I don't see it in the rules but believe we have been using the highest salary from the positions where he had elegibility.  So as the #1 CI he would have a salary of $27.5M.

He wasn't the #1 CI, he was the #3 CI...he was the #1 OF, and the #1 player as an OF. I looked this AM to make sure. In this situation his defensive scoring at different positions made him more valuable at one, as opposed to another.

I think we need to find a real solution to this glitch even if it means re-writing the rules.  5M per year on a 5 year deal is too much to ignore.  He got points during the year regardless of where he played.  IMO, The real point total of 5.652 points should be used to calculate his rank at CI even if it is NOT what is shown on the Fantrax site.  Going forward, perhaps we should just take out defense so that this is not even an issue.

It depends on which Fantrax FGM League  you look at.  He is #3 in the FGM '11 National League and #1 in the Franchise GM Playoffs 2011.  I think the playoff league has it right.
