Nuggets Roster Moves Continued
« on: August 04, 2018, 11:41:07 AM »
I did some hard thinking and decided that rather than spend a 2nd rounder to clear $22 mil in cap space, I'd much rather spend nothing to clear $37.3 mil in cap space. So I'm doing that.

Option 1 buyout on:
Paul Millsap ($29.6 mil, 2 years)         = $59.2 mil
Kenneth Faried ($13.5 mil, 1 year)
Wilson Chandler ($12.8 mil, 1 year)
Darrell Arthur ($7.5 mil, 1 year)

Total of $93.3 mil, so 60% is $55.98 mil which we round up to $56 mil. I would like to divide that up as $23.8 mil in 2018 and $32.2 mil in 2019. That leaves me at $62.3 mil for my total cap in 2018 and 2019. Shark in the water boys...

There actually could be some roundoff error because I did the 60% for the players' contracts added together instead of separate, so it may end up being cheaper or more expensive by a couple $100k.

I'm at work til 10 pm central, but I'll double check the math when I get back if no one wants to do it sooner.

For the 1-year guys, you can't split up their buy-out into 2 years, it would have to be all this year.
Quote
A buyout may be spread throughout the total number of years a player has remaining on his contract (less years is allowed but never more)

Here is what you could do:

Paul Millsap ($29.6 mil, 2 years)
29.6 x 2 = 59.2 x 60% = $35.5m owed.
You can spread that $35.5m over 2 years, however you want to split it up.
$17.8m each year, or all $35.5m this year, or all $35.5m next year if you wanted. Or some other combination, like $5.5m this year and $30m next year for example.

Kenneth Faried ($13.8 mil, 1 year)
13.8 x 60% = $8.3m owed
1 year contract = it has to be paid out all this year

Wilson Chandler ($12.8 mil, 1 year)
12.8 x 60% = $7.7m owed
1 year contract = it has to be paid out all this year

Darrell Arthur ($7.5 mil, 1 year)
7.5 x 60% = $4.5m owed
1 year contract = it has to be paid out all this year

All in all, owing this year for sure would be:
8.3 + 7.7 + 4.5 = $20.5m

Plus you can split up Millsap's $35.5m between this year and next year however you see fit.

Doing the math, between Faried, Chandler and Arthur you'll save yourself $13.6m in cap space this year.

Then depending on how you break up Millsap's contract, you'll save more.
If you split it up evenly at $17.8m per year, you'd save an extra $11.8m this year, for a total of $25.4m.

Good so there's no round off error then. All of the $20.5m for the 3 guys plus $3.3m of Millsap in 2018 and $32.2 in 2019. Same as before. I save $39.9 mil in 2018, though. Not sure where you got your number for that.

$63.7mil between all 4 guys in 2018 becomes $23.8 in 2018.

Yep, you're right.

My number ($25.4m) was based on splitting Millsap evenly ($17.8m cap hit this year).

The way you've split it up with only $3.3m on Millsap in 2018, you get $39.9m in cap space this year.

All good

  • Jwalkerjr88: Idk if anyone remembers the 2021 class but it was weak on offense outside or the top 10-15. I dont regret the deal just learned and move on. As long as you have assets, you can mold your build how you want. Picks are usually the most valuable asset because most gms want in on a draft.
