Unfortunately, we have specific guidelines governing our contracts. The minimum winning bid for a five-year deal is $50.0m and your $45.0m was a "little short" of that mark. Your winning bid kind of places you in a quandary of a sorts. You could raise the amount of your winning bid to $50.0m and give Buxton a $10.0m (2022) contract. Here are the rules governing contract lengths. You should keep these guidelines in mind when bidding on other players.

Contract Limits
Below are the maximums. Example if you give a player 1.1m per year... The most years you can do is 3.
$0.3m - $1.0m 2 years
$1.1m - $5.4m 3 years
$5.5m - $9.9m 4 years
$10m or more 5 years (the overall limit)
Contract extensions follow the contract maximum lengths as shown above as well as their own minimum standards.
$20m+ - 5 years
$16 to $19.5m - 4 years
$11 to $15.5m - 3 years
$5 to $10.5m - 2 years
