Free Agency!!

Offseason free agency will begin on Monday 8/31/15 @ 9AM EST.

Please remember the following Free Agency rules:

- No team may have more than 5 active bids at anytime.
- Any player that is eligible for a prospect contract (less than 40 games played in the NHL) is NOT eligible to be acquired through free agency.
- A bid on a player is considered final when it has been open for 48 hours.
- Once your bid has been open for 48 hours a moderator will sticky the thread and ask for your contract decision.  Try not to respond to the thread until it is stickied.

I had a question.  Lets say a player isn't in the NHL (and not on one of our DNHL teams), but has over 40 career NHL games under his belt and is under contract in the swedish elite league.  Can we bid on such a player?  I would say yes, but maybe not.

I think as long as they are over 40 nhl games yes.

It's crazy how much people get into the bidding process and will "overbid" for some guys.  Not saying any of these guys, but I have Abdelkader, Hudler, and Niskanen all on the trade block with cheaper extension values then they are going for in FA, and I didn't even have one bite on any of those guys.

Seems like there just isn't the big names out there either this year.  Maybe that's why the 2nd-tier guys are going for a little more.

There are those of us who are super motivated after the season to make deals before the draft. Then there are others I feel are burnt out with hockey and focusing on baseball. They let this slide until now and here they are overpaying. But honestly I was very active in the off season and didn't even know these three were on the block. Else I would have been working with you to get at least one of them.

Also in FA you are just giving up money and not having to part with any players.  It seems lots of teams are flush with cash so they will overpay.  I've never been a big fan of FA in any league and I try not to build my team that way as you almost always spend more than they are worth.

We already knew players would get overpaid this FA with so much cash laying around.  Although I look at some teams and there are a few that I think will make it hard on themselves come extension time for some of their young players. 

I will disagree with you on FA.. It is my favorite part of any league.  I know its a dynasty league but I love having at least 5 -10 new players on my team every year.  keeps things fresh.   I would have to agree that it is a little backwards right now as players should be going into FA because they are too expensive to extend...

With trades, owners typically ask for too much compensation and then negotiate.

I promote a wait and see how it all ends up.

Too much money - don't see it.

Overpaying in Free Agency - whatever the market will bear.

Not able to keep rosters due to extension prices, probably a good thing.

We will never all be happy...........
