I join start of this season and don't know how extensions work and what if you. Sign extensions before trade deadline. Also the players I want to resign are expiring at end of this year I want to sign today if I can to see if I have enough and Possibley might be better to sign before deadline. Someone please let me know.
The rules regarding extensions are spelled out in the section entitled "Contracts". I will try and give you a brief overview and you can ask questions for clarification.
In regards to your question about timing, here's the pertinent information from our rules:
Contract extensions are based on looking up the player's highest salary per ranking by each eligible position in both the current season and the last season. If an extension is done during the season and before the trade deadline, then the previous TWO seasons and the current season must be looked at. In the off-season, the last two seasons will be used. Therefore...
--REGULAR SEASON, PRE-JUNE 1ST (2015): 2013, 2014, and 2015 rankings are used (This has passed and does not apply to your team right now)
--REGULAR SEASON, AFTER MAY 31ST (2015): 2014 and 2015 rankings are used
--OFFSEASON (2015-2016); 2014 and 2015 rankings are used
On your roster, for a player like CI/MI/OF Holt, Brock, $0.5m (2015), you would have to look at his rankings for all three positions for which he is eligible--CI - MI - OF. Contract extensions also have their own Maximum/Minimum amount of years--you can review the scale in the contracts section, but I will give you the options available in this example scenario.
Brock Holt - Player Rank
CI - 2014 - 1547.6 pts = #46
CI - 2015 - 1302.0 pts = #36 -- $6.0m (4 years or 2 years)
MI - 2014 - 1451.36 = #28
MI - 2015 - 1198.40 = #20 -- $6.0m (4 years or 2 years)
OF - 2014 - 2243.6 = #37
OF - 2015 - 1842.8 = #11 -- $16.5m (5 years or 4 years) - This is the extension you would have to agree to in order to keep Brock Holt because you must take the highest contract extension contract amount.Prospect extensions are different. If you want to utilize the reduced amount scale afforded prospects, then the contract must be 5 years in length and must be at least $4.0m. You can also sign prospects to regular extensions based on their rankings for least money and less years.
20XX - 60%
20XX+1 - 50%
20XX+2 - 40%
20XX+3, n/a - 30%
