Phillies - Reds Trade 7/24/15 2:13P Eastern
« on: July 24, 2015, 03:10:45 PM »
:PHI: gets
MI-OF Hernandez, Cesar, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Cain, Matt, $9.5m (2015)
:CIN: pays $9.5m

:CIN: gets
C Stassi, Max, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Feliz, Michael, $0.5m (P-n/a)

Phillies do this to plug some holes to make a run this year.  We are gambling that Cain will stay healthy and if he does he is a possible resign.  I'm also hoping Hernandez finds a way to stay in the lineup when Utley returns.  Stassi was expendable with Swihart and Hedges on my roster.  Feliz is a decent spec we had to part with.

Thanks jblum for the negotiations and good luck!  :toast:

Reds confirm. We hope stassi can snap out of his slump and get in the big leagues asap. Same thing with feliz who can become a top starter imo

I don't really understand what the Reds get out of this trade.  I get trading Matt Cain.  He's on an expiring contract, and even at 70% resign, he will be a $7.0m extension.  The Reds don't need him and he will certainly help fill a need for the Phillies.  However, why do the Reds include Cesar Hernandez in this trade?  The Reds are obviously on a rebuild, similar to what the Phillies were during the past season, so why trade a productive CI/MI on a (P-n/a) contract that is playing behind an aging veteran?  Even when Utley comes back, Hernandez is playing well enough to warrant a continued spot in the starting lineup.

SP Michael Feliz is certainly a promising prospect and is would be a welcome addition to anyone's staff.  C Max Stassi, however, is an injury prone player who has never distinguished himself as an offensive threat.  He is valued for his defensive abilities, but that isn't going to get you much in this league.  If this was a 2 for 1 trade, Feliz and Stassi for Cain, it would me sense, but including Hernandez tips the balance too much in favor of the Phillies and it becomes a very lopsided trade.

I'm shocked.

I must be the greatest GM of all time as I rip every GM off. This league is starting to become a total waste of my time.

For the record, I would never give up Feliz to have Cain at $7m per year. That would be ridiculous. Cain has been hurt and is only putting up just over 40ppg. I'd much rather have Feliz on a spec deal over Cain. Hernandez was needed to make this trade worth it. The fact that there is a veto on this trade is laughable.

I'm getting a top 75 prospect in feliz who has the potential to be just like Cain if not better. Worse trades in the league have gone through

I don't mind this trade there have been worse in the league.Cain has turned out to be injury prone and a heavy resign,so turning him is smart.

I agree 100% with what Flash said.  I hate vetoes but cannot approve this trade so let's put an end to this one.
