Hawks and Sharks Deal
« on: May 01, 2015, 12:34:59 PM »
Coming to Chicago :CHI-NHL:
C Nazem Kadri, $5.6m (2014-2018)
C Jordan Nolan, $0.7m (2014-2016)
D John Moore, $2.4m (2014-2017)
C - Dylan Larkin (2014: 1/15 - 0 Games)

Going to San Jose :SJ:
D Michael Del Zotto, $4.6m (2012-2015) ... $4.7m (2015-2018)
LW Vincent Lecavalier, $3.4m (2014-2017)
RW David Moss, $1.1m (2014-2016)
C - Jared Knight (2010: 2/32 - 0 Games)
G - Alexander Salak (2009 FA signing - 2 Games)

Sharks were shopping their Centers and we were looking for a couple.
Dealing MDZ is the price here. He is back in a big way and will do better with a new coach. At least someone who can keep him on the straight and narrow like Craig did. LOL Vinny will also improve with a new coach. The rest of the deal was what stuck after 2 wks of talking.

Glad we smoothed out the bumps BB! :toast:
Sharks to confirm.

Sharks agree to this trade.

We get some needed Wingers while shedding excess Centers.
We're also getting Del Zotto on his upswing after his year and a half scoring coma. He'll be part of a great 1-2 punch on the backend along with Leddy!
Kadri was an experiment that didn't pan out. I blame the Leafs for that!
Larkin is tough to give up.
Salak is a low risk gamble.

Glad we worked out the wrinkles PPG!

I could tell you weren't in love with Kadri anymore after your Sharks tossed his azzzzz into Free Agency with a BO. You took a chance clearing him off your books and like Slackjack and Semin, no one would bite. LOL

I'm hoping the Buds get a real coach like Mike Babcock.

:DET-NHL: Detroit,
:EDM: Edmonton,
:NJD: New Jersey,
:PHI-NHL: Philadelphia,

and :TOR-NHL: Toronto.

Mike would do well in Toronto, Philly or St.Louis. Toronto and Philly appear the be the most willing to pay his contract expected to be close to 5m per.  :agent: :o

First and second impression are that the Sharks are getting the worse end of the deal but that it's not worth digging into too deep.  :iatp:

I was actually thinking Babcock could land in Philly which would turn Del Zotto and Vinny into instance fantasy studs again.

There's still the possibility he lands in Edmonton with all that young talent, working closely with Peter Chiarelli and closer to his hometown of Saskatoon.

Sorry this isn't about the trade. Keep an eye on the untalked about situation in Chicago. Not only will Sharp be gone, Corey Crawford could be on the move as well (involvement with sharpgate). Also with Babcock having close ties with the Bowmans he could end up in Chicago if the Blackhawks falter.

Dont open a can of worms and let them dry out Slack. Spill man.

Just another way of saying that I think the Hawks win the trade. Nothing complicated.
The key point here is that it is only what "I think". Trade assessment is entirely speculative right?

Anyway, I looked at it closer and must admit the divide is marginal.

Kadri, Nolan and Moore at $8.7m - Average age 24, Average PPG 1.10 are more or less a push for Del Zotto, Lecavalier and Moss at $9.1m - Average age 31, Average PPG 1.05

Del Zotto seems to have found a good home but it's too early to think of him as consistent. And while it is nice getting pieces at RW and D which are both scarce I think that Lecavalier at $3.4m is somewhat over-paid.

Setting aside his maturity and the train-wreck of a team he plays on I think Kadri has the most skill and upside of any player involved in the deal. I also think Moore has value as a defenceman likely playing in a top 4 role, though here again the contract might be a little heavy.

In all I would say the established NHL players traded are almost a push depending on organizational needs and future plans. Though my preference would be the package with the younger players including the piece with the highest possible upside.

Looking at the prospects I believe that Larkin is the best piece being traded, again to Chicago. I think it is fair to say that Knight will play in the NHL but he doesn't have the pedigree or the skill that Larkin does. Salak may offset that enough to call it even but at 28yrs old he may have missed his window to play in the NHL. I gave up on him at the same time the Blackhawks did.

So, this is obviously an equitable trade but the way I break it down is that Kadri and Larkin are greater and more desirable than Del Zotto and Knight.

Rebuttal?
