Shoot. Looks like he figured out my plan. I have to get something in return for telling him who to draft, though, don't I?
We can joke about it but I voiced my concerns about the Dodgers to the Commish quite a while ago. Let's review.
First, the Dodgers claimed Carl Crawford off waivers and took $80 million in payroll off your hands for nothing. This was a nonsensical, horrendous move that benefitted the Red Sox incredibly. A fifth of your payroll cleared from your books for free.
Second, the Dodgers traded their top three prospects (two of which will likely get significant playing time in the majors this year) on the second worst team in this league to the Red Sox to acquire one pitcher in Jose Fernandez. The move makes little sense for a bottom dwelling team.
Third, the Dodgers inexplicably cut Chris Withrow for nothing. An incompetent move by the most kind of assessments.
Now the Dodgers are trading you the 2nd pick in the 3rd round for a middle reliever. The very same draft in which they have failed to make their own picks which has caused them to be skipped despite the fact they have excellent draft position.
So I'll have to veto this trade based on what appears to be a clear track record of at the very least the worst form of incompetence and at the most some serious collusion. I'd recommend we find a new owner for the Dodgers or restrict them from making transactions with the Red Sox going forward. It's one thing to neglect your team with inactivity but it's much worse to actively damage your team in this manner.
