Franchises With Bright Futures
«

I hope we can have another fun thread to discuss not just the franchises with the best farms, but a look at the big picture with their competition in the division/league, finances, and current MLB contracts.

I like the Rockies and Dodgers a lot. The Dodgers have more top prospects hitting the majors now, but the Rockies will be soon to follow. Both teams have a lot of star power. The Rockies will be around $91m for a cap while the Dodgers will be around $120m-$125m. Obviously, the current rosters, top prospects, and cap room is good reason why the Dodgers have the upper hand in the NL West battle, but it will surely be interesting next year (if not this year as the Rocks are only three back).

I agree with you on the Rockies. I like the future of my Pirates. The Braves and Rays are both doing a lot of good things as well. The Royals and Orioles have huge farm systems with a few major leaguers to build around, but I don't know if those franchises will have enough for next season.

Gotta throw the Rays into this conversation. A lot of young talent, and several guys on the cusp. Mney could be a problem but Longoria (great contract), Jennings, Price, Davis, Hellickson, Niemann, Vitters, and Wieters is a nice collection of young guys to have.

I may be biased, but except for a cple players on my current roster, you are looking at what could be the Braves for the next 5 yrs. My salary cap should stay around 100mil and most of my guys are on cheap prospect contracts that will allow me to resign them for cheap in a couple seasons. I have traded away several good spects lately, however I managed to hang onto my top 2 in Aroldis and Freddie while adding Conger.
It would be cool to get a "future ranking" thread going that could be used to project franchise's futures. The Rays, Royals, Rockies, Dodgers, Orioles, and Pirates all seem to have bright young futures also.

2:15PM: The Dodgers announced this afternoon that they’ve placed right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the 15-day injured list with triceps tightness. The club also placed right-hander Michael Grove on the 15-day injured list due to lat tightness. In corresponding moves, the club has recalled right-hander J.P. Feyereisen and selected the contract of right-hander Michael Petersen. To make room for Petersen on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred right-hander Joe Kelly to the 60-day injured list.

Mookie Betts was hit on the left hand by a Dan Altavilla fastball today, causing Betts to drop to the ground in immediate pain and then leave the game. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters (including Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times) after the game that Betts has a fractured bone in the hand and will be out of action “for some time,” though the former AL MVP won’t require surgery.
