Reds deal Swisher for Cub's Martin
« on: May 17, 2010, 05:55:03 PM »
:CHC: to :CIN:
X Martin, Russell, $-3.5m (2010) from ATL
X Martin, Russell, $-0.5m (2010) from CHC
C Martin, Russell, $4m (2012)

:CIN: to :CHC:
X-OF Swisher, Nick, Cash considerations from NYY, $-3.5m in 2010
OF Swisher, Nick, $5.5m (2012)
X-OF Swisher, Nick, Money from BAL, $-1.5m in 2010
X OF Swisher, Nick, Money from CIN, $0.5m in 2010

We are swapping on a needs basis.  I could use Martin, but the offense from the OF is needed much more.  We essentially made both of these players free this year.

Reds agree. As much as I hate to see Swisher go, it is needed since backstop has been a problem in the Queen city. I thought I remedied the problem in free agency, but Kelly Shoppach went down like Jake's mom, early in the season. With the suddenly rejuvenated, yet brittle, Jim Edmonds, I have the depth to make this deal.

The $500k cash exchange on both sides is not needed since they cancel each other out.

Although I believe that Martin has a little more value based mainly on the position, I think this is a very clean and fair deal. Money stays the same and both teams fill a need. APPROVED.

Just wait, Dan, I gotta couple good ones coming, but I'm not gonna use them on one of your lame trades. :koolaid:

Btw, good job Mike acquiring Swisher, Nick Saban was talking him up to me, then he bolts him to you.

:iatp:  The Reds get a slight edge but it is a fair trade.
