Bowker has some talent but is stopped by all star veterans.  Hill was part of my future plans and is currently the third middle infielder, but the potential of Reyes is too good to pass up.  I can wait on him to recover and sort his thyroid issues out because I have Lyle Overbay stepping in at DH.

This deal should put me exactly at the cap of $250m.  I may be forced into cutting some prospects mid-way through the season.  Even with the tier caps changing, I should be good for next year as I have $52m in expiring contracts.  I'll probably have to trade Jeter and get some prospects and liquid cash out of the deal to free me up for revenue sharing and the 2011 season.  Overall, things are looking bright for the Yankees.

I accept this deal.  I knew that Jim was very happy with Hill, but was willing to give him up for someone with a higher talent level.  He can do this with his stacked roster.  I, however, cannot sit around and wait for $6m of MLB talent to start producing.  As a small market team, I will wait for youth, but the veterans need to produce if they are being paid.  Acquiring Reyes from the Cubs was not a mistake.  It was a good deal at the time, and now I am netting a high quality MI who is locked down on a very cheap salary for the next five years.  I also managed to cut Wiggy (had to force that card to get the deal done).  This frees up $6m that I can use on prospects.  Who knows, Bowker may actually play a role for the Pirates down the road too.
