2011 FGM Entry Draft Thread

Entry Draft Rules
The annual entry draft starts at noon EST on the day after MLB's signing deadline for draftees [August 16th, 2011].  Each GM will be given a maximum of eight hours to make their pick.  Once you make your pick, the eight hour clock starts for the next GM.  If you do not pick within that time frame then the following will happen.

If you had supplied the EC with a pre-rankings list, then the best available player from such a list will be taken.  If no such list is available then the pre-draft ranking list that is used for the draft will determine which player is taken by your team.  At this point, you will be placed on an auto-draft list until you request to be off of such list.

Trading of draft picks is not allowed.

These are bonuses to be paid in the entry draft per the rankings provided by Baseball America.  These bonuses are not based on actual Franchise GM draft position.

1 - $7.0m
2 - $6.0m
3 - $5.0m
4 - $4.0m
5 and 6 - $3.5m
7 and 8 - $3.0m
9 thru 12 - $2.5m
13 thru 17 - $2.0m
18 thru 31 - $1.5m
32 thru 46 - $1.0m
47 thru 64 - $0.5m
all picks from 65 on require no signing bonus

If a team is not present for the draft / times out, and did not provide a proxy pick, they'll be awarded the next highest ranked player that they can afford, and then placed on auto-draft.   The players ranking list is of the same order of Baseball America followed by the actual draft order.  Entry Draft will only have players who are eligible for the real life MLB Entry Draft.

Everyone, if you don't make your pick then you will not be skipped... your pick will automatically be made the next time someone has a chance to post it.  Please submit prerankings when you are almost up.  You can do this via PM, but that doesn't even guarantee your pick if that person (me or someone else) doesn't check their Inbox in an eight hour span.

Chris did not submit any prerankings... he PM'ed me about two guys he was interested in and that's it.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what any of that means.  The rules are clear.

The Padres are on the clock until 10:15 PM.  If he doesn't make a pick by then he will get the next highest ranked player.  If he PMs a list to someone who is not online within those 8 hours then the next GM can skip him.

That's what I just paraphrased...

  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Brent: He had that view b/c of his father who was a blackjack dealer in Vegas.
    May 05, 2024, 04:35:28 PM
  • Daddy: Yes @Brent!! That is it exactly. Pitching is the house & it always wins in the end.

  • Daddy: There shouldn't be many innings available in FA in dynasty fantasy leagues IMO. Thats guaranteed money! To hell with High A ball.
    May 05, 2024, 05:21:23 PM
  • Daddy: Until someone starts a minor league baseball fantasy game or option. Maybe we can petition fantrax? I just dont think they will care for that.
    May 05, 2024, 05:23:07 PM
  • Daddy: Neither should we (so much). Every league i see is MLB.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development

  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
    May 05, 2024, 06:02:39 PM
  • Daddy: Mr Braves you are my guy. There isnt anything wrong with minor league studs or flops. I get it in REAL baseball.
    May 05, 2024, 06:20:28 PM
  • Daddy: This is fantasy baseball. We dont generate revenue selling prospects and merchandising. Our top farms dont get a write up in Sports Illustrated.
    May 05, 2024, 06:22:29 PM
  • Daddy: Load up on MLB guys, then near MLB guys, and only then is the quality of your prospects matter. Ya dig ;)
    May 05, 2024, 06:24:36 PM
  • Brent: I over value minors to a fault, but I am softening on that stance.
