Currently a free agent bid is final and locked when the bid has not been raised for 72 hours.
From the Transactions section of the Rulebook:
Section B- Free Agency
Sub-Section 1- FA Bidding
Item AX B(1)-1.0
Each player is auctioned in a separate thread at the ProFSL website that may be started by anyone. There is no limit to the number of players that can be auctioned at one time or the number of bids for a player. A bid on a player is considered final when it has been open for 72 hours.
I propose the rule be amended to say "A bid on a player is considered final when it has been open for 24 hours."
Rationale:
- More activity: I agree with Cris' point in his most recent league-wide email that FGM could use more activity. This certainly wouldn't be the silver bullet to solve that, but it would incent GMs to check the Transactions page daily to make sure we are aware of major and minor league FA bids.
- Rewards research and hustle: the 72 hour system disincents GMs doing their homework to find up and coming MLB players and minor leaguers. It's more efficient to check in 2-3 times per week to check out the bids of other GMs. I'd rather have a system that incents GMs to do their own research and see the benefits (or mistakes) that come from that.
- More timely roster management: it can take weeks for a free agent bidding cycle to finish up, which feels too long and for an MLB free agent creates a competitive issue when the FA bid is to, for example, replace an injured player.
I welcome further discussion! Thanks all,
Dave
