Lightning/Blues Trade

[King Boseman]

St Louis Blues are pleased to announce a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning to bring in a true veteran defender to anchor our blue line for the 2020/21 season. This deal allows us to shed cap and make future moves our club needs to make. The new ownership group wants to move quickly through the retooling phase.

:STL-NHL: Ben Hutton, $4.4m (2017-2020)  … 3.0m (2020-2023)
       Mason Marchment, $1.4m (2019-2021)
       Michael Carcone, $1.4m (2019-2021)
       Jordy Bellerive, $1.5m (2019-2022)
       Martin Pospisil, $1.4m (2019-2021)
       Rhett Gardner, $1.4m (2019-2021)
for
:TBL: Zdeno Chara, $2.6m (2019-2022)

:iatp: :TBL: Confirms. We have space to eat cap. We're moving Chara who's probably a yr away from a full-time coaching gig and adding a prospect we've liked for a while with Bellerive. Ideally we land a DP as well but the King wouldn't have it so we're good with getting younger in this deal.  Thanks King Boseman and good luck with your season. :toast:

Cap move. Looks good. Congrats on your first trade StL.

:iatp: yeah lots of change of address forms to fill out. That cap will sneak up on you

[AntMan]

I prefer the lot of players here which makes sense for the cap delta

Chara seems ageless and that’s a good contract

Smart trade both ways. Blues are well underway to a new and improved look.

:iatp: St Louis gutting the house and re-doing it. Good exchange of needs in this deal.

[TheBeef]

:iatp: Good move for StL. Looks like Bolts got a whole lot younger by dealing Chara for Hutton and took on the cap dump.

[EndGame]

:iatp: Good trade for both teams. Z is on his last contract. Hutton is much younger so the extra salary is the tag along in this deal.
