FLA and SJ agree to trade

[Rock On]

San Jose Sharks make this trade to unload an anchor of a contract that was supposed to get us some points for at least one more season but instead Niemi has bolted to the KHL and that $5.5 million cap hit for another 4yrs seems too heavy for our franchise to carry. I know the boys in Buffalo are laughing that they unloaded Antti sooner than later. We will take a serviceable contract like Lucic but maybe we'll "Corey Perry" him in the 2020 offseason if he can't get it together in 2019-20.

Trade to SJ
Milan Lucic, $7.3m (2017-2021)  Contract unloaded
Round 2 - 2019  (from :MON-NHL:*)
Round 4 - 2019

Trade to Florida
Antti Niemi, $5.5m (2018-2022)  Contract dump
Kole Sherwood, $0.6m (2018-2020)

PigsRule to confirm.

Cats agree. :iatp:
Glad to unload Lucic's contract.
Niemi's contract will be an immediate BO.
Thanks for the trade RO! :toast:

Lucic could possibly maybe give my Sharks a small up tick in production if Edmonton can ship him off to Vancouver to relive his junior glory days when he was a Giant! At least that's the hope by acquiring Milan.

:iatp: 2 teams dealing their trash. LOL
I love it!

:iatp: PPG summed it up! Lucic recently turned 31yo. That's prehistoric for a guy who plays the grid and bang game. It would be a good move to buy out Lucic and get that cap hit off the books.

That's the bottomline here!

[TheBeef]

:iatp: That's a good trade for both teams IMO. Both team move a bad contract to take one they can live with. Smart trade.

I am totally feeling like lady luck is on my side. I also thought Niemi had at least 1-2 seasons left in him as a mentor to a younger goalie but with so many young goalies knocking on the NHL's door these days it was a matter of time before Niemi saw the writing on the wall and jumped the Atlantic to extend his career.

:thumbsup::iatp: Good deal for both sides but man, I'd hate to have either of Lucic or Niemi.

:iatp:
I will give the win to Florida who shed Lucic's $7.3 Million contract while taking on a contract they can Buy-Out completely this Summer.

I almost sent RockOn an offer for Price and Niemi but man am I glad I forgot to hit the send button. :taco:
