:NYR: Making this deal to roll the dice on a younger backup that might land a gig in the NHL in 2019-20. Vegas wanted some depth to fill their blueline. Vegas to confirm. Thanks ALL4!:thumbsup::toast:

VEGAS agrees. We're getting a goalie we can use a hometown discount on if needed and adding 2 on the blueline where we're thin. We've got other moves planned. Thanks Burke.

:iatp: Nilsson might sign in Europe as a UFA. Smith is over the hill and getting 7m on his extension. Everyone's happy with their haul, then I'm good too.

Both teams are taking on risk but it's a fair deal.

I've liked Nilsson since his days on the Island. He needs a decent defence (doesn't have to be an iron curtain) in front of him and he'll deliver the goods. Buffalo and Vancouver were not a fit. Neither is Ottawa. A place like Carolina would be nice. Even Philadelphia imo. Chicago and Dallas could even work.

:iatp: It's a win-win here. Rangers unload cap and pricey vet goalie while adding a pair of D. Vegas unloads risky backup UFA goalie.

[PigsRule]

:iatp: Smith is a fairly big risk hiven his age and downturn in skills.

[EndGame]

:iatp: There's definitely risk on both sides of this deal. The fact VGK are getting some added depth on the blueline makes them the winner of this deal imo.

It seems Nilsson's signed a 2yr extension with the DJ Smith coached Sens. He's still in the NHL for now.:thumbsup:
