Rays and Giants make a deal

[VolsRaysBucs]

Rays trade to Giants
OF Roger Bernadina 1M (2011)
- 0.5M exchanged in cash 2011
OF Carlos Lee 6M (2013)

FOR

CI Casey McGehee 0.5M (2012)

Rays make this move to save 6M dollars over the next 2 years, give me room to sign my draft picks and retool my OF for next season.  It also gives me some flexibility with my roster to shift Posey around my lineup and possibly ship Wieters for a package.  Hate to lose the potential and proven production, but not going anywhere this year and I'm banking on McGehee being closer to the top 25 CI he was in 2010 than what he is this year.  Thanks Flash for the smooth talks.  Confirm at your convenience.

Tampa Bay Rays - San Francisco Giants trade:

Rays trade:
OF Roger Bernadina 1M (2011)
- 0.5M exchanged in cash 2011
OF Carlos Lee 6M (2013)

Giants trade
CI Casey McGehee 0.5M (2012)

Although I believe Casey McGehee will rebound from his poor 2011 performance, I am getting two productive OF players.  Roger Bernadina is young and will continue to improve.  Carlos Lee, although not as productive as in years past, is still more productive than the three OF players I currently have.  This trade will push me to the limit of my 2011 cap at $99.5 million, but with the expiring contracts I have, I will easily be under the cap for 2012.

Assuming this trade is approved, I would like to extend the expiring contract of Roger Bernadina as follows:

OF Roger Bernadina $1.5 million (2014) - He is currently OF #87 for the 2011 season and OF #91 in 2010.

Interesting deal, mild upside and mild downside going to the Giants for a struggling CI.  Financially benefits TB.

Approved.

Looks good, could be a steal if Casey turns it around

Need one more approval on this one.
