Rays and Royals trade

[VolsRaysBucs]

Rays send to Royals:
OF Ryan Ludwick 5.5M (2013)
- Tampa pays 5.5M in 2011

Royals send to Rays
CI Brent Morel .5M (P-n/a)
MI Ivan DeJesus .5M (P-n/a)
- Kansas City pays 1M in 2011

Rays make this deal to get in position and retool for 2012.  We added some pieces this offseason in hopes of making a run with the East a bit down this year, but injuries to Longoria, Posey, HanRam and 3 SP are proving too much to overcome.  We free ourselves of 11M owed to Ludwick over the next 2 yrs and land two cost-controlled youngsters who figure to be players in the next year or so.  KC adds a legit big league bat to insert to his OF or UT spot, immediately strengthening his team as he fights to hold off the Twins.  Thanks for the easy talks Freddy, Royals to confirm.

I really did not expect to be in a position to be buying, but it looks like I am. Having another good week and missing Maybin and Kendrick this week has forced me to push for another bat. Morel has disappointed this year but I still think he can provide in the future. Ludwick should improve my chances from this point on. I am just banking on Moose Tacos who is starting to heat up in AAA and will hopefully get the call to the show soon. Nice trade talks.
