White Sox/ Giants trade - 7/21/15 5:59:06 PM ET

[Dan Wood]

Giants trade:
SP Giolito, Lucas, $0.5m (P-n/a)
CI Reed, AJ, $0.5m (P-n/a)
MI Tucker, Cole, $0.5m (P-n/a)

White Sox trade:
OF Yelich, Christian, $0.5m (P-2016)

Unfortunately we are trading away someone we viewed as a cornerstone to build around, but the current state of our team made us feel that adding a potential ace, and a potential power bat was a better move. Cole is currently a project but very young, so in 4 years he might help us. Injuries to major players and to depth pieces left the pale hose languishing under .500 all season. I feel that two of the players will make an impact next season and make us a deeper team in the long run. Thanks for the talks Flash.

White sox are over cap so we will make the following moves dependent on approval of this deal...

drop
RP Loup, Aaron, $0.5m (P-2016)
CI Ford, Mike, $0.5m (P-n/a) - from MILB
C/CI Ewing, Skyler, $0.5m (P-n/a)

send to minors
OF Cole, Hunter, $0.5m (2020) - please change to p-n/a
SP Musgrove, Joe, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Giolito, Lucas, $0.5m (P-n/a)
CI Reed, AJ, $0.5m (P-n/a)
MI Tucker, Cole, $0.5m (P-n/a)

I agree and confirm.  I am trading away some bonafide potential.  Lucas Giolito will probably be a big time SP at some point and AJ Reed has shown some hitting prowess at the minor league level.  Cole Tucker suffered a wrist injury, but seems to be recovering well.  With all this, I'm on the fringes of the playoff picture right now and my team needs a regular OF.  I have been shuffling platoon players for much of the season and I made this trade to stablize my OF.  Christian Yelich is a proven hitter and will come at a discounted price when I sign him to an extension.

The Giants are in a tough division and I'm hoping Yelich provides enough punch to help me at least get a shot at a playoff run.  I'm paying a high price for Yelich, but potential will not help me win in the immediate future, so it's time to take a chance and see what happens.

I request approval by the Trade Committee. :toth:
