Release Tyler Chatwood $0.5M 2014 No CAP Hit
Extend Chris Archer $0.5 2015

2013 Ranking #105 ($1M)
Chris Archer $1M 2017
Is this correct? Based on the Contract Extension Rules, don't you always have to consider the ranking of the current year, or am I misreading the rule? Here's the excerpt that influences my thinking:
"
Contract extensions are based on looking up the player's highest salary per ranking by each eligible position in both the current season and the last season. If an extension is done during the season and before the trade deadline, then the previous TWO seasons and the current season must be looked at. In the off-season, the last two seasons will be used. Therefore...
OFFSEASON (2010-2011): 2009 and 2010 rankings are used
REGULAR SEASON, PRE-JUNE 1ST (2011): 2009, 2010, and 2011 rankings are used
REGULAR SEASON, AFTER MAY 31ST (2011): 2010 and 2011 rankings are used
OFFSEASON (2011-2012); 2010 and 2011 rankings are used"
Under this scenario, Chris Archer, with 1024.6 points, is currently ranked at #41, which would require a contract of $9.0m--which would be extended until (2019).
I could be wrong, but wanted to raise the question for a full understanding for future extensions.
