Padres - Phillies deal

[papps]

Phillies receive:
CI Franco, Maikel, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Gee, Dillon, $0.5m (P-2014)

Padres receive:
CI Rizzo, Anthony, $0.5m (P-2015)
SP Thompson, Jake, $0.5m (P-n/a)

I am taking a gamble hoping that Franco is the real deal. His upside is enough for me to deal Rizzo. Gee is also a nice addition to my rotation.

Thanks Chris. I'm glad we finally agreed!  :toast:

Well I was able to essentially turn Franco into Rizzo.  Rizzo has the higher floor but Franco might have the higher ceiling at this point.  However, when the Padres have the ability to score young, cheap, MLB talent...well we do it.  Rizzo had a down year in the numbers, but was still really good; especially in this format.

Gee for Thompson, PHI wins this right now due to the fact Gee is proven MLB caliber and Thompson has a long way to go.  Jake has great numbers though and Dillon priced himself out of SD's price range by being the 56th best starting pitcher in our league.   Dillon is looking for an extension in the 7.5m dollar range and that's too pricey for a 4th starter, albeit a good one.  Anyone criticizing the Latos extension would have crucified me for keeping Gee with a 60m salary cap.  So I go for a guy who is cheap with a boat load of potential.  Okay.  Did I mention Jake Thompson is 6' 4"!

Keep this trade in mind, say 3-5 years from now, when all has played itself out.  Thanks for the awesome negotiations Chris.  And thus, the seemingly annual SD-PHI trade.

I approve this trade.
